TorontoChelsea 4,064
Not true. Great players can adjust to a certain amount of changes and the manager wont create a system that will make most of the squad uncomfortable.JT, Cole, Lampard and Mata have already played in a lot of different formations and style of play and have succeeded in many of them. Oscar and Hazard are pretty adaptable too, but they are too young to judge. Falcao and Hummels (who seem realistic options if we are going to spend another insane amount of money) wont be put in a scrutiny formation that wont work for them.I personally don't see a system that we could possibly play that would suite Falcao period. Not with the players we currently have. He needs a team built around getting him the ball in dangerous areas. Trying to turn Hazard, Mata, and Oscar into guys who mostly just try to feed Falcao doesn't make sense in any way. Solid, world-class defenders like JT and Cole will succeed in any system and if we bought some solid central defender, they would do (whereas someone like Luiz I think would be brilliant at a team like Barca but not in the Premier League). Lampard was a world-class box to box midfielder so it was very easy to fit him into any system. Mata is different. He is a fantastic offensive playmaker but he has real limitations. We have played a few styles with him and he was basically useless when we tried to play the defensive counter-attack in the CL last season. He was probably our worst player in the CL after the group stage whereas Ramires played the best football of his career in that system. Most players are not as well rounded as players like Terry or Cole or Lampard were and do fit into specific systems better than others. It works much better when a manager has a vision and can acquire players that fit into his vision.

I am not asking the same dominant force though.Of course a well planned stategy with the right personel and stability is a better situation to build a team, but I think you are being harsh. I think we are very capable of buying great players that will fit our scrutiating manager rotation.Let me try to dissect:Goalkeepers: Dont give a fuck for the formation.Defenders: If we have players on the level of JT, Hummels, Cole and a Right Version of him (maybe Azi in the future) we are fine with any formation that start with 4.Midfielders: I honestly believe Oscar can be a reincarnation of Lampard / Pirlo. If he proves to be a great deep lying mid, we have ourselves a very versatile player. We would need a DM, but if we get anyone with the same qualities as to Vidal / De Rossi / Busquets, the defensive role will fit any systems (4-2-3-1, 4-1-2-1-2, 4-3-3, etc).Attackers: Any style of play that requires wingers we got it covered (Hazard and Moses). We also have Mata who is a magician behiind the striker and since we wont be playing on counters (you got it perfectly on your evaluation), he fits it perfectly. Oscar can play there either.Striker: We already had our Falcao/Cavani argument so I wont prolong myself. I agree Cavani would be a better option. However, Falcao will bring us so much joy we wont ever care. As the days go by, I feel I will get the chance to prove my point.Subs: They wont be running the show, so they will always have to dance by the music. Nonetheless, the players we have (Cahill, Bertrand, Mikel, Rambo, Marin and Sturridge) add some important atributes our first team lack.We can end up with a very good balanced squad! Our midfield lacks a proper high energy DM. Mikel is good but if we could get someone 'better', that would be awesome.I think we have 2 playmakers that have the ability to play deep in the future. 1. Oscar 2. De Bruyne.Hopefully in January, we can get a young, cheap CB with good qualities like Jores Okore and then in the summer, we could go after a real top-class CB like Hummels, that Greek dude playing for Schalke...etc.
Blue Gino 377
I read that when Rafa was at Liverpool, the club came close to getting Jovetic from Fiorentina so maybe the interest from Rafa is still there as a partner for Torres up top. KonohasOrangeFlash 2,607
Hummels/Subotic/Ramos----------------- Fellaini/Moutinho---------Isco/ El shaaraway--------Neymar----------Falcao/Cavani/Lewandowski. Fuck.... Imagine if we signed one of each group :0. Genuinely would shit myself with excitement. Never going to happen, but I do think we will we some big signings from us in January. We don't need Fellaini or Moutinho. We need a true DM. Spike 12,049
We don't need Fellaini or Moutinho. We need a true DM.We do in Mikel. What we need is someone who distribute the ball up to the fowards. Someone like Cabaye or Moutinho, a person that can get do all the dirty work in the midfield as well as supplying the fowards with long passes. I'd be happy with Moutinho and Mikel partnership. kellzfresh

Mikel on the other hand has pretty much hit his limit. A solid yet unspectacular limit. A great DM would help a lot.

BlueLyon 9,359
Tell me again why would we need another lightweight playmaker like Isco? Where would he play? What more would he offer than Hazard, Mata and Oscar?Camacho would be good shot actualy. But striker is priority. Rmpr

Mufassir08 2,400
Wow leandro damiao is one of my favourite players right now.Granted i have not seen him a lot but when i have watched he has looked brilliant,he has got it all hold up play, link up,heading, clinical finisher, very good dribbler and can score the spectacular. DDA 9,938
Get Fellani in,, I think he would add a lot to our current line up. Swap Nando for Falcao and bung some cash in A.Madrid's sky rocket. Maybe bring Lukaku back?? Feels like a lot of people have forgotten about Lukaku which is odd given his excellent loan spell at the Baggies!

BlueLyon 9,359
What a fantastic talent is James. Would love to see him, but first, let us fix the formation, starting eleven and subs and then see what we realy need. In current case, James would be only a sub (or play ahead of Mazacar) and he is to expensive and talented to be just that..
