It's not ideal, but £37 million for a player who isn't featuring much is not to be sniffed at. This is a transitional period for us right now and getting this money in and a player off the wage bill who isn't playing (no matter how good he is or how much he is loved) will help us in the rebuilding process.

I'd like to add that I'm not thrilled that we're losing Mata, not am I excited at the prospect of seeing him as a Man Utd player, I can I can accept it

I swear some people here would take 60 million from City for Hazard if they came calling just because "it makes financial sense and no player is bigger than the club".

Do you think Mata would have been sold if he was a starter or played regularly?

We don't need money that badly to sell important players - the problem is Mata is not important for Mourinho, and they were dangling 40m in our face for him.

Regarding this hierarchy of club>manager>player - who's interests are really protected with not selling Mata to a rival for seasons (plural) to come? Chelsea Football Club's. Who's interest are we protecting when we do sell? Well, in all fairness, Mata's and Mourinho's. I can't see any positive from this deal unless we buy a player from the transaction money we ought to receive.

Difference being Hazard isn't a squad player. He is an important first team player.

Mata is not an important player for us anymore. People need to realise that and get over it!

Last two seasons Mata was described as irreplaceable and Mr.Chelsea... let's wait a year or two and see how that changes :)

That's the point - if we go out and buy Costa (thus helping us in a position where we need competition), then this is good business.

What? It's hardly fair if Mata has ONE bad game, he goes to the bench for the next 3, if Oscar has a bad game, he starts the very next match. How is that Giving Mata a chance? It's pure favoritism, simple.

Agree with you COMPLETELY.

Well even when Oscar has a bad game he still makes like a million tackles and challenges.
