No he didn't, Mourinho got sacked because of a disagreement with Roman about playing players such as Shevchenko, and because results weren't going our way and we were playing poorly.

Bad football!

Had he won the CL it would have saved him. But he did not, and was playing bad. Hence got the boot.

If AVB can do the same but play good football, he will stay for long.

Welcome and good luck Andre. Personally, I've been hoping Guus will return, but I feel this was not a bad move at all. Definitely better than bringing Harry Redknap, Mark Hughes or Rafael Benitez (God forbid!) like some reports suggested.

As for rumours that Falcao and Moutinho will come in... I don't know. Both are solid players, no question, but I'd rather see Sneijder and Aguero instead. Along with Neymar. biggrin.gif

They say he's the new Jose Mourinho. On Sunday night, Andre Villas Boas took the link a little further.

It wasn't just that he was winning a trophy, it was the way he did it. Porto sealed the Portuguese league title with a 2-1 win away from home at fierce rival Benfica, despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men.

Just under a year ago, Mourinho managed to hold out against Barcelona to record a famous victory at Camp Nou after his Inter side had a man dismissed. After the game, Mourinho rushed onto the pitch to start the celebrations with his players, who gathered in front of the small corner of Inter fans, tucked high away in the stands. Barcelona wasn't too happy with Inter's celebrations and, rather unsportingly, turned on the pitch sprinklers to disrupt the party.

On Sunday night, Benfica pulled the same trick on Villas Boas and his players as they celebrated their title victory. In fact, they went one step further -- in addition to the sprinklers being used, they switched off the stadium lights, leaving Porto to jump around and dive across the pitch in near-darkness. And this is supposed to be the Estadio da Luz -- the Stadium of Light.

Yes, But you said he was sacked because he didn't play attractive football, Mourinho played defensive football.

Now all we need is to buy Arda Turan (unlikely) or Neymar and a creative midfielder and sell, Ferriera, Malouda, Anelka, Zirkov, and Drogba if he wants to leave.

Manager: Andre Villas Boas

GK: Cech, Turnbull, Hilario

CB: Terry, Alex, Ivanovic, Luiz

RB: Bosingwa

LB: A.Cole, Bertand

MF: Ramirez, Essien, Mikel, Lampard, Modric, McEchran, Benayoun

FW: Torres, Sturridge, Kalou, Neymar, Lukaku

Hopefully.

Although Ron Gourlay's recent comments over Drogba's future cast doubt over that. No rumours over Kalou, Anelka and co's future either (yes, it's early days, but still). Having said that, Hiddink’s arrival would have had the opposite effect. So the decision to bring in AVB alone must be a sign of intent.

Rumours are clueless. The press spend the last month talking about Guardiola, the odds about Harry and almost said that Hiddink as the new boss was a question of time.

Of course that talks with Boas started a long time ago. Now there are rumours about Falcão and Hulk.

Im sure many rumour about players exit will start right now. We spend 15m in one manager. It means the board os willing to do big changes.

It doesnt mean We should get rid of Anelka. He is a good player.

Mourinho was sacked for many reasons, and one of them was his defensive football, despite all money he spent he coul not beat Liveerpool, who had a worst squad.

Villas Boas>>>>>>>Mourinho

You cannot say that on the bases that Villas Boas has had 1 excellent season, where as Mourinho has had lots, Including winning the same competitions that André has won, He also has many others including a treble at Inter.

While Andre might prove himself to be a better manager than José in time, You cannot say that Villas-Boas is a better manager than Mourinho.

Less arrogant, not as big mouth and Jose, and loves attacking football.

For me he will do more good things than Jose did.
