They say he's the new Jose Mourinho. On Sunday night, Andre Villas Boas took the link a little further.

It wasn't just that he was winning a trophy, it was the way he did it. Porto sealed the Portuguese league title with a 2-1 win away from home at fierce rival Benfica, despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men.

Just under a year ago, Mourinho managed to hold out against Barcelona to record a famous victory at Camp Nou after his Inter side had a man dismissed. After the game, Mourinho rushed onto the pitch to start the celebrations with his players, who gathered in front of the small corner of Inter fans, tucked high away in the stands. Barcelona wasn't too happy with Inter's celebrations and, rather unsportingly, turned on the pitch sprinklers to disrupt the party.

On Sunday night, Benfica pulled the same trick on Villas Boas and his players as they celebrated their title victory. In fact, they went one step further -- in addition to the sprinklers being used, they switched off the stadium lights, leaving Porto to jump around and dive across the pitch in near-darkness. And this is supposed to be the Estadio da Luz -- the Stadium of Light.

Although Ron Gourlay's recent comments over Drogba's future cast doubt over that. No rumours over Kalou, Anelka and co's future either (yes, it's early days, but still). Having said that, Hiddink’s arrival would have had the opposite effect. So the decision to bring in AVB alone must be a sign of intent.

Rumours are clueless. The press spend the last month talking about Guardiola, the odds about Harry and almost said that Hiddink as the new boss was a question of time.

Of course that talks with Boas started a long time ago. Now there are rumours about Falcão and Hulk.

Im sure many rumour about players exit will start right now. We spend 15m in one manager. It means the board os willing to do big changes.

It doesnt mean We should get rid of Anelka. He is a good player.

Start of a new era, Not sure. because with every manager who comes in we say the same. But this guy does have the potential as he has being around for sometime, have been nursed under some big names, so it would be really interesting to see what he brings on the field. Having said that, i was not expecting that we would be chasing Villas-Boas as from all the linked/rumoured manager the best would had been Hiddink only because Roman has some belief in him { thats what we all thought}. So this a big surprise and a pleasant one, this shows that RA is someone who is ready to take risks. For one it is a big gamble probably a calculated one.

I know most of us are happy to see Villas Boas because of his background and his approach atleast i m. It is impressive. From now on till the end of the transfer window i m sure there would be loads of speculation as to how the club's future looks like i.e. if Villas-Boas comes. What i m worried is that if we have him and he doesnt deliver starting with the first half of the season, RA shouldnt have other plans as seen previously. If we get him it should be a long term planning and not based on number of trophies he gets in the every season atleast for the first few. I would wish that he really digs up into our academy and promotes the deserving ones for more game time { we really have some potential there}. Really wouldnt mind another trophy less season if our youth gets exposure and more game time as we built up to the future.

Yes i dont think letting go of Drogba is a good idea because that guy is pure experience and still an asset. Lazy, moody and arrogant at times, but give him competition and he would rise to the occasion which we all saw last season. Once Torres came in he fought it out.

Start of a new era: it would only be determined in the next few months based on signings, digging into youth and our gameplan. Now would be too early to say i reckon for now just relax and enjoy the fun.

Bosingwa deserves a second chance.

It's no secret he and Carlo fell out after that United game. He has just come back from a long-term injury.. Before that he was one of the most attacking right-backs in the league! I'm sure he could recapture that if properly managed.

VILLAS-BOAS: IN PROFILE

Andre Villas-Boas returns to Chelsea after a gap of just under four years.

He was our scout responsible for assessing opposition teams throughout Jose Mourinho's time in charge of the team which was between the summer of 2004 and September 2007.

He remained part of Mourinho's staff when Inter appointed the ex-Chelsea manager as their new coach for the 2008/09 season, allowing Andre to extend his experience of working in Europe's big clubs and experience more trophy success as the Italian club won the Serie A title.

Shortly after the start of the following season came the chance to move into management in his own right, the offer coming from Portuguese club Academica from the city of Coimbra. Raising the previously struggling club up to 11^th in the table by the end of the season and into a League Cup semi-final impressed Porto sufficiently for Andre's former club to give him the senior coaching position with less than one year's experience of that role. He did not disappoint them.

The club returned to the type of silverware haul they enjoyed under Mourinho, winning the Portuguese Super Cup at the start of the season and progressing to win a domestic league and cup double and the Europa League by beating another Portuguese side, Braga, 1-0 in Dublin in May. Aged 33, Andre became the youngest manager to win a European trophy.

At home Porto had broken their own record for games unbeaten at the start of the season in all competitions, previously set in the Mourinho era. They played 36 times before losing a group stage League Cup game. They went through the league campaign unbeaten, drawing just three games out of 30 and scoring 73 goals as they finished a record 21 points ahead of second-placed Benfica, earning praise for their attacking style of football both at home and in Europe.

Andre was the first at Chelsea to hold the opposition scout role as a dedicated, full-time position and was innovative in the use of up-to-date computer and video technology to brief the coaching staff and players. It played an important part in bringing back-to-back Premier League titles and FA Cup and Carling Cup victories to Stamford Bridge.

His involvement in professional football began as a 17-year-old when then Porto manager Bobby Robson moved into the same building in the city.

A young enthusiast for the sport, Andre soon enjoyed conversations with the highly-experienced ex-England manager. With an English grandmother, he spoke the language to a very high standard which also helped his work when he moved to Chelsea.

He was invited along to Porto training sessions and Robson recommended his new protégé travel to the UK to take courses. He became the youngest person to gain the FA's coaching qualification.

Robson then made Andre the youth team coach at Porto where he remained until Mourinho's arrival seven years later, when he began working in the role he fulfilled at Chelsea first time around. Porto won two Portuguese League titles, the Portuguese Cup, the Uefa Cup and the Champions League before the coaching team moved to London in 2004.

The best thing about this appointment ,is it is completely different to our previous managers , he is a fresh up and coming manager who hasn't won the biggest prize yet. maybe this is what we need? someone with the hunger to win things rather than steady the ship knowing they already have there champions league winners medal. interesting times at Chelsea to say the least.
