Ronaldo McDonaldo probably sold a lot of shirts, and has a few goals, but the days of a striker that never tracks back or presses are gone.

Last one we had like that was Ossie - one game when we were defending he was sat on the barrier chatting to fans 😂

he's still a good player for is age but no one can expect to challenge a title with him playing all matches.

He needs to manage very careful and I think United suffer more with him that less without him

Hope they leave him in place for just a few more weeks so they’re absolutely zero threat to us in the league. If Conte comes in and does a Tuchel it isn’t inconceivable that they could claw back into title contention.

He seems to epitomise what the Salford Reds are all about at the moment. Technically gifted players that play as individuals with little unity

A part of me would love to see Conte shoehorning Wan bissaka into an RWB and play 3atb with their slow-ass CBs. Surely they would not click right away given these upheavals. Also Conte+Penaldo? Match made in heaven. The biggest factor would be if Conte really wants to implement a 3atb system there, he can only play 3 attackers and given their plethora of options, a few will be unhappy.

On a different note, Zidane is apparently in the conversation as well. Could be an interesting option for them with his counter attacking football.

Outsider odds for Penaldo becoming player manager lmao

I think that squad could quickly be moulded into the way he wants tbh.

He won't need to play AWB as Dalot will be excellent for wingback (Dan James would have been his Moses wildcard so it's good he's not there anymore) while Telles is the perfect wingback. Lindelof, Varane and Shaw is a good back three aswell.

It will eventually go to pot and when it happens it will be hilarious looking at it as an outsider this time but it's very bad news for the short term.

AWB would be a class RCB

The squad is clearly not meant to play 3atb tho. Playing AWB or Luka Shaw as CBs when shed out 250m in fees and wages for VArane and maguire would be hilarious. Same as teaching pogba to play at a high tempo. So many spoilt brats in that team and the terrible board/management. Conte would be sitting on a minefield with his short temper.

Their main strength would be diluted. Greenwood, Martial, Rashford, Penandes, Pogba (dont see him playing in the pivot for conte), Cavani, Penaldo, Lingard all competing for 3 slots? Would love to see that. Soon enough he would signing Candreva and Edin Dzeko for back up lol.

Even Conte won't win the league with this toxic club. He might be able to compete with us for 3rd place but might very well fuck ManUre even more in the long haul. Maybe worth it if we indeed can't make the step up.

I use to think that but United fans actually tell me otherwise as according to them he's positionally pretty shit.

Pogba played his best football of his career under Conte and Allegri. Under Antonio we will likely see the Pogba of France unfortunately.

I don't actually agree the strengths would he diluted, quite the opposite. Most of their attackers actuslly want to be the ST so the inside forward formation Conte plays will suit them down to the ground.

Bruno will be the odd one out but that was predictable anyway, he was always doomed as soon as a manager who wasn't having his brand of heroball came in.

Loyalty is one thing; wilful blindness quite another

Tyers.PNG

By Alan Tyers

Manchester United are in a mess, one man is at the wheel, and the whole world can see that he is driving them into a ditch. And while poor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is catching it from all quarters, one normally noisy Man United legend seems to be strangely silent.

Gary Neville, Old Trafford stalwart, Sky Sports pundit, football news machine, 24-7 one-man media operation, has said that he won’t call for his mate to be sacked. The question is “why?”

Neville has created a mighty second career for himself as a pundit, the man in football prepared to ask all the difficult questions, and yet on a subject that is clearly dear to his heart, he seems unwilling to make the obvious call. His loyalty to his friend is admirable in some ways, and he said on Sky Sports on Sunday that he has never called for a United manager to get sacked, going all the way back to Ron Atkinson.

But his refusal to encourage the club to do not only the right thing but, at this point, surely the humane thing is odd. It feels like Neville has painted himself into a corner where he is defending a managerial performance that is, in footballing terms, indefensible. As his Sky Sports colleague, and Telegraph Sport columnist, Jamie Carragher asked at the weekend, why is it okay to criticise a player but not a manager?

It is as if Gary Neville feels he has set out his stall that the club should give Solskjaer time, and now he cannot go back on that view. Maybe he really does believe that the babyfaced Norwegian is the man to lead United’s attempts to get back on terms with Chelsea, Manchester CIty and, yes, Liverpool. But… he cannot really think that, can he?

Nothing about the way Ole’s team are playing suggests that he can turn this around. You can still think he is a good guy and wish him well without backing him beyond all reason.

The question is not whether Ole should go or not, the question is: why on earth would you want him to stay? It’s one only Neville, surely, can answer. Nothing wrong with having a view that's against the grain,
after all that is part of what makes a good TV pundit, but surely you have to change your opinion when it is overtaken by events?

We can see you sneaking out: At half time on Sunday, there was a steady trickle of fans leaving Old Trafford. By midway through the second half, it had become a flood. Thom Gibbs analyses the chaos on the field and off it during the 5-0 humiliation.

The weekend's best stat

6.7

Tackles per game made by Manchester United in the Premier League this season, comfortably the lowest number of any side in the division. No team has made more errors leading to shots and only Newcastle and Watford have fewer clean sheets. Read our player ratings for Sunday's match here.

He's going to stay, but he's now on thin ice. Losing 5-0 to your bitter rivals is unforgivable.

It's like us losing to---wait. Who are our bitter rivals? QPR? Fulham? Brentford? The first two sides are nowhere near our level lol.

Probably Tottenham doing that at The Bridge is the equivalent.

Conte coming in mid season would stabilize them and should certainly secure them top 4. But I don’t think he’d be able to pull off a miracle like TT did for us. He just doesn’t have the midfield or wingback personnel to implement his style.

But Conte with a summer transfer window to bring in a couple is a scary prospect. Like if they were to sign Rice and Lamptey they’d have one hell of a team with a serial winner coaching them.
