Muzchap 8,966
This Cavanni saga is really fucking me off...I did want Falcao, then I wanted him - now I'm like fuck it - we got Lukaku, BA and Torres - that will do for next season!I'm more interested in selling Mikel and getting a good (or 2) DMs in to replace him Maybe sign another defender and all good...Signing Cavanni for 58million euros and watching him flop will be too painful and make us a club highly ridiculed again! Not to mention him and Torres will likely start bumming each other for moral support... I'd rather see Lukaku given a chance - if we still need a change then get someone in Jan and fuck the prices - at least we tried to do the right thing!!!! Yes, I am in the same boat. After being one of those fans who thought that we needed to go out and splash ridiculous money on another striker (Falcao/Cavani) in order to compete I have changed my tune and want Lukaku to be given a go, with Ba and Torres (unless we are able to unload Torres) as back up. I don't think , save for Drogba in a few seasons, we have had one seriously prolific striker at Chelsea, and with the way our team is set up we have loads of goals coming from the midfield, so is spending 50m+ on another striker really the best option?? If we are not able to offload Torres, then we will have 120-130M in striking talent at the club + wages..The only problem is that I know many fans, especially in the heat of the moment, will criticise and jump on Lukaku if he doesn't have a good start and we end up panicking by Jan..by which time we may not be able to secure an 'elite' striker'. Overall, though, I just think it is better for the long-term future of the team that we don't bring in another 50m+ striker and we stick with Lukaku. I also like TOPTB's point about having a more emotional/romantic connection with seeing Lukaku succeed here, rather than an expensive player that would have rather played in Madrid anyway. We should look to replace Mikel and maybe bring in another CB + Luke Shaw if he is available then I think we're good. There is also the bonus of seeing Lukaku grow and develop here, at Chelsea, into a lethal striker -- under Jose Mourinho, no less. Stingray 9,441
Lukaku still has the touch of an ElephantOk man. It has been MUCH better for one. On the other hand ... he did other stuff strikers need to do. Movement, weighing, pressure, pace, force, scoring , .... at 19? So what now.... does the relative lack of defensive competence make Hazard a bad midfielder? Or Mata? Maybe the lack of a super first touch doesnt make Lukaku a bad striker. What a bogus metaphor - elephant. Tggg. didierforever, Muzchap and semiller1313
Popular Post! The Rising Sun 711 Posted June 18, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted June 18, 2013 Frankly, at this point in my life and Chelsea's successes in the last 10 years, i dont care if we dont win much next season, as long as Lukaku and Debruyne are integrated into our team. Its about time we become a club that has the ability to spot talent and make them into superstars. Im tired of being a buying club. There is absolutely no joy in watching players blossom when we have paid Big Big bucks for them, as that is expected.Cavani or any other huge name will not increase the profile of the club at all, it is the ability to build from within that will increase the profile and respect of the club, and kind of rebuild its soul.We needed to spend and go all crazy to get where we are, but now we need to have a sustainable model, and Cavani at 60 mill is certainly not that.He is a great player, but i simply dont want him here as that in my view , means we are not moving forward. Not a popular opinion, but there are shades of truth in every opinion on here. We cant challenge for anything without a class striker.See, I think this is a misunderstanding of who we are as a team. We threw away points last season not because we didn't score enough goals (unless you subscribe to the Kevin Keegan School of Coaching), but because our midfield was weak and our defence porous especially towards the end of games. I firmly believe that if we can improve both these areas then we have the goals in the team to win trophies. Muzchap

Duppy Conqueror 1,543
I smell fear..fear of the media ,fear of failure, fear of the number 50 and fear of Belgium's World cup chances. Not saying we should spend 50 plus million on Cavani or any striker for that matter..tho definitely do think we need a striker and to offload Torres. Yea probably. We have won the league with a striker scoring just 12 goals. Lukaku scored 17 last season. I'm not entirely sure we need Drogba of 2010 with players like Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle, Lamps, Moses, Torres, Ba, Lukaku etc.
AndersonBLUE 819
We would need to buy a new striker anyway if Torres leaves. Why not Cavani? Lukaku, Cavani and Ba would be an amazing strikeforce to work with.

Popular Post! Jase 43,479 Posted June 18, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted June 18, 2013 Yeah, Lukaku has done a good job while out on loan, and thus deserves a chance at Chelsea. But giving him a chance doesn't equate to not look for strengthen our striking force just so we are forced to play him. We gotta put things into their context. Lukaku didn't kill the Lernaean Hydra. Certainly his goal tally his impressive, yet that was for a club that achieved nothing that season. 11 players have started more games than him, while 43% of his games are off the bench. At these lights, having a good season at West Brom and having a good season at Chelsea are two diffrent things ; not the same pressure, not the same challenge, not the same level. In his first season here, he was not trusted. The second, he's been sent out on loan. Giving him the opportunity to take a role in our squad and to prove his value under our colours is the chance he deserves. After, if he wants to be our starting striker, then he'll have to prove that in the upcoming years. A young player of 20 years-old cannot be given a straight pass to the starting XI just because he scored 17 goals at West Brom.Out of 60 competitive games, Cavani will never start all of them — only Messi does. Between the Premier League, the Champions League (especially the groupe stage), the FA Cup and the League Cup, Lukaku could easily have his fair share of games where he'd start. If Cavani comes, I can fashion Ba leaving, and the ladyboy benched if we cannot sell him (unless he improves). Having a great striker and a promising young one is an ideal situation for us, in my opinion ; for Lukaku, too. Eventually, all the pressure would be upon Cavani's shoulders and thus Lukaku could focus upon his football.Lukaku is a clever guy and he knows what he has to do in order to succeed at Chelsea. If he proves his worth, then he'll play and eventually be our first choice striker. I don't think Mourinho will not give him his chance (if he stays) ; nor do I think that Mourinho will not play Lukaku because of Cavani price (such a thing seems to not matter to José's eyes). If he stays at Chelsea next season, he will have his chance — Cavani or not. That is precisely why I found it amusing that people think having a strikeforce of Lukaku, Ba and Torres next season will be enough. Won't get us anywhere with that and we'll be fighting to stay in the Top 4 again. Mourinho won't put up with that. And at the moment, the overrating or overhype of Lukaku borderlines ridiculous. Had 1 great season at West Brom yes but many already think he's world class and can lead the frontline at the highest level when he's still got plenty to prove and improve on before he gets to that stage. ulsterchelsea, Peace., Mufassir08 and 5 others
