Report: Chelsea FC will play AS Roma in Washington D.C. http://t.co/igPskYTWp6

Came out of nowhere. Just like playing Football Manager - you try to sign/sell a player and you can suggest them or they can suggest you playing a friendly game, part of that business.

Pretty sure has something to do with De Rossi deal.

This.

In normal condition, I don't think we could even considering to have a friendly match with AS Roma on 10th August.

I don't see why that is facepalm worthy in all honesty. The role of a 'specialist' is dying out in football and the demand of a player that can do it all is much much higher now. Oscar has more going for him in a tactical sense than Mata. Look at Bayern this year, every player had to contribute to both attack and defence, they didn't need any players in specialist roles because the team as a whole worked as a cohesive unit and covered the space & applied pressure expertly, reminisce of Sacchi's old Milan team.

There's been a growing trend where clubs are now seeking the midfielders that can do it all, and is probably why they are so expensive right now. Just look at Martinez last year, Fernandinho, Witsel, Paulinho, Illarramendi recently.

It is important to get the balance yes but i feel its exaggerated just how much. It's the same at the back especially at full back, Bosingwa was widely thought to be better than Ivanovic at RB a few years ago just because he was a perceived attacking fullback. Why is Kyle Walker so highly rated when he is one of the worst fullbacks i have ever seen?

For the attacking trio their attacking ability should be looked at first, the same with defenders should be able to defend first and foremost. 2010/2011 nearly all our attacking players did ok in a defensive aspect but were borderline comatose when it came to doing what they were supposedly best at - attacking.

1) He's not Mikel

Bit harsh but made me giggle.

Mikel is a 26 year old boy, De Rossi is a 29 year old man. He's a leader, he makes the players next to him better and he never shies away from a challenge.

He could be part of the new spine of Chelsea, something we've lacked since we lost players like Maka and Ballack. He could be one of those players that other players look to for leadership and to drive us on. He isn't a passenger....he's a man, with a beard who discovered fire and probably smells like a cross between leather and mahogany.

Just want to say for anyone who cares, I've kinda been reading up on AS Roma's whole transfer policy and business model for around a season now (it's very easy to do, ask any Roma fan).

Like us in the past, the manager gets little to no say when it comes to transfers. Their manager could say "I'm not going to sell Pjanic" and then the next day he could be sold to Arsenal in exchange for an U12 player. Their transfer dealings are amongst the worst in Serie A. Or at least, they were before this transfer window (they've made some smart signings in Benatia, Strootman, Maicon.)

That said, and my point is, regardless whether their manager says he wants to keep/sell a player, just dismiss it. It means absolutely nothing at the club. Whoever the board don't like will be sold or frozen out of the team even without the manager being told.

While it's true that De Rossi's problems were mainly with the previous manager, he does have direct problems with the people on the board and, like Osvaldo, they want him gone. De Rossi unlike Osvaldo however has a lot of self respect and won't let them give him the Osvaldo treatment, thus he is likely will leave.

if we don't sign any more defensive midfielders, we might see Luiz in midfield

then we will have to put up with shit like cahill at centre back

Now Cahill is the shit player?? um Crazy things do happen

The fact that Roma signed Strootman is irrelevant with De Rossi considering their type. While kevin is CM, DDR is DM. However, DeRossi played at Roma as LCM/RCM just ahead of DM (Bradley) in 4:3:3 aswell, so it makes sense.
