For whatever it is worth, Gab Marcotti doesn’t think this is a done deal like many think it is.

Certainly the longer this drags on, we leave ourselves open to someone else coming in for him.

If Spurs suddenly came in for him, his connection there would likely make it an extremely difficult decision for him.

As we seem to have completely dismissed Luis Enrique and Nagelsmann, if we lost out on Poch, we're almost certainly back in a similar position to Potter where we'd be taking a punt on a manager unproven at the top level which just seems needlessly risky in our current situation.

I'm just hoping that the deal is that far advanced that it might just be perhaps waiting to make mathematically sure we're not getting relegated, or an announcement is being held out until the end of the season.

However he is a goal scorer, if we're looking for someone who can score goals specifically

Problem is, he is sorta good at tap ins when he has a lot of space and this situation rarely occurs in PL since a good decade. Don't want to say "waste of space", but having such a limited player, that needs to be additionally serviced by other players is unaffordable luxury nowadays in this league. We've seen what happened when Tuchel tried to incorporate him in the tactic. Such striker type is just obsolete, Lewandowski for example realized it like 6 or so years ago and started to press and do buildup.

He may do well in Italy, Germany or wherever. Meanwhile I don't have much doubts Havertz, Noni or whoever really will tap into open goal when unmarked, actually they are more mobile than Rom, problem is, they hardly have an opportunity to do it outside Cobham.

I don't recall him trying to incorporate Lukaku at all.  If Tuchel watched Lukaku at Inter, he would know that he doesn't play with his back to goal and he prefers to get the ball in space.

The sad part is, even a washed up Lukaku is a better finisher than any other attacker we have at Chelsea at the moment.   That's how far we've fallen from challenging for titles, to becoming a top 10 side in the premier league.

Personally I don't want him back in the team. His huge ego and whining compared to what he brings on the pitch, it's not worth it for me. Also that interview he did, professionally was unforgiveable.

The pointing...it makes me cringe!!!

Will we push Lukaku another season with a different manager?

He clearly showed that he does not want to return, why again?

We don't need to "push" him. He has contract, he gets huge salary, he got obligations aswell. If the next manager wants to keep him then he stays. Considering how tragic our goalscoring record is, I wouldn't be surprised if he would be included in the pre-season squad, unless we got a really tempting offer, which I doub.t.

I do think if we get this summer right (and in that I mean the managerial appointment, shipping out the squad surplus and adding a couple of key additions), top 4 is right there for the taking to jump straight back into it next year and this weekend has only strengthened my feelings on this.

I think Arsenal and Newcastle will both find it much harder with Champions League football (assuming Newcastle get it) and the increased schedule. I know Arsenal were in the Europa this season but they won't be able to rotate and treat the Champions League in the same way. United are the best of a bad bunch this season in my opinion going for top 4. Liverpool could well improve, really depends on their recruitment this summer as some key players are starting to get older. Spurs are Spurs and could be in dire straits if Kane leaves.
