From memory the club wanted to follow a new strategy and they decided to back Potter in....I don't think anyone expected him to fail that badly to a point where players actually looked lost on the pitch not knowing what to do. Pochettino's been out of a job since the end of 2021/22 season so yeah he would have been available in September 2022. From what I remember I'm pretty sure he was even interviewed for the job after Tuchel got sacked but the club hired Potter instead.

"Brighton's Graham Potter, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane are top of Chelsea's shortlist to replace Tuchel, sources told ESPN". I remember being on my knees, praying for the naming of Potter. How the tables have turned...

DH1988 1,349
We’re a cup team, at this stage we aren’t going to attract the elite standard of management but who is elite these days that’s available - It’s modern day management.
DH1988 1,349
As a baseline I would only hope to see the same level of fitness in our team next season that Poch’s Spurs had in his early days there where the average squad age was 24/25. This is reportedly because they played a 'weakened' side having been promoted. This charge is beyond ridiculous. Every club has a squad of players that they must register for the season, it's a disgrace that the FA/Premier League/Football League have the arrogance to question the quality of a side being put out. On the same argument we should have been charged for playing a 'weakened' team all those years back against Liverpool, despite beating them at Anfield and stopping them winning the league. manpe, Stats, laura90 and 6 others

As someone who watches only us and am never going to pretend to be a knowledge on foreign teams,it appears to me from the outside that bayern have a very capable team who for one reason or another aren't playing well. Well if they can have a nightmare with that fairly developed, seasoned team then there's no reason this fairly new, young team can't. Fingers crossed next season with the right man and no European distractions below the CL we can progress

They wanted another quality player, they got Cancelo from Man City. They needed another CB, they got De Ligt from Juventus. Their attack without Lewa is still better than anyone in the Bundesliga (Sane, Gnabry, Muller, Mane, Musiala, Coman), they're just not clicking as a team. For once, it is refreshing to see Bayern Munich not walk the league, they could of easily kept Nagelsmann but decided that Tuchel would lift the UCL Trophy with them and Pep made them look bang average. Their attack on paper may be better but look at the output of Coman, Mane, Sane & Muller compared to before. Sane’s return to Germany has been poor by all accounts in comparison to his time at City. As well as the fact that Lewandowski scored a huge percentage of their goals basically every season and having Choupo-Moting as his replacement isn’t going to cut it as he isn’t as lethal in those half chances where as Lewa is. Losing him and Thiago has been colossal to the regression of this Bayern team I think. I don’t think Kimmich and Goretzka can lace Thiago’s boots together never mind as individuals- in fact Kimmich’s best/most successful football has been at RB at Bayern under Flick as opposed to playing as a holding midfielder. They only signed Cancelo in January despite needing a more attack minded RB for seasons to match Davie’s output on the other side. Ultimately their signings/plans to replace Lewa and Thiago haven’t worked as well as their signings of Sane, Lucas Hernandez, Pavard etc have been below par to say the least. 13 hours ago, Superblue said: Also yeah that’s all well and good - but the team is lacking an identity as a whole in terms of their personality on the pitch and tactically, so you would of hoped that if there was anything he would of really really impressed the club with, it would be that as opposed to “roadmaps” for 2 players. In particular when we have 30 players. Granted I am glad he thinks he can do something with them (in particular Mudryk because if he can do something with him then he truly is a miracle worker as he has been one of the worst big money signings I think I’ve seen in Europe over the past however long) but if you wanted the club to come away really really impressed with anything - it would be his vision on how to get the team to perform to an extremely high level as a whole and competing. And even then, Mudryk? Of all the talent in that group, Mudryk? If the club is in particularly only really impressed about how he can develop young players first and foremost then it is truly as I feared that we will not win anything for a while. Granted not exactly Poch’s fault, you can see he’s worked with younger build squads like this before but this is Chelsea, not Southampton or Spurs, so there has to be a roadmap to competing/winning trophies as opposed to developing an 80m player. Or Boehly/Eghbali & Clearlake are happily going to make us into some sort of developmental club as opposed to a top one (which is already a concern with this inclination of trying to copy the RB model and signing every under 23 age player who is available at present). That was one of my only real fears about Poch alongside the yes man and the lack of trophies - is that his appointment perhaps is geared up more around getting us competitive in the next 3 or 4 years as opposed to sooner - which I don’t think is unrealistic. Particularly when you consider that there is still some excellent players in this squad. Edited April 24, 2023 by OneMoSalah

And even then, Mudryk? Of all the talent in that group, Mudryk? When you look at the other signings we've made, how many actually need a roadmap? Enzo will continue to get better with a good partner next to him, Madueke is still raw but he's got the dribbling ability to be an interesting option, Fofana & Badiashile should continue to develop at CB. Mudryk is the high profile signing that looks like an absolute flop at the moment and there is no end in sight. If we can clear off the likes of Ziyech, Pulisic, even Havertz (hopefully we can convince Bayern), that would be a huge help in rebuilding the attack.
