I knew we'd had a few links with him thrown around but we get that with about 100 different players a season. I can't remember though there being really strong links to him signing for us over the few weeks prior to it being confirmed. Even a couple of days before it was confirmed there were still reports that Liverpool were favourites for him. Maybe I was just not paying any real attention at the time but it seemed like it really came out of the blue.

I too remember that the Pulisic announcement came out of the blue. Was out at the time and I got shocked when I saw the news. But there were definitely links with him back then and based on the comments in that transfer thread, don't think many were excited by the signing and/or thought we would lose him to Liverpool and hence, maybe the surprise/shock response at the end.

The main point though is everybody is losing their mind that we haven't signed anybody yet and it's effectively coming on the back that United have signed Sancho (who they've been trying to buy for a year) and they're in discussions with one other player. There has been hardly any movement so far in the market in general, I would expect to see more movement over the next 3-4 weeks as the Euros wrap up but ultimately the signings have to be right. United may have taken a year but they got the player they wanted rather than settling for a second rate alternative. We had to play a waiting game to sign Havertz last summer. Would people have preferred us then to instead use that money to buy an alternative because the negotiations for Havertz were long and drawn out? There's still plenty of time for movement, people need to relax a bit.

Think the difference with the Havertz situation was that negotiations did take place and there was acceptance that Leverkusen were OK with selling, despite the negotiations dragged on. At the moment, we are not hearing much at all and a lot of players are either already out of the Euros or weren't in it at all. With regards to major signings, I suspect if we don't get any indication that a deal is going to happen over the next 2 weeks or so or by the end of July, then I don't think it'll happen at all because there would only be a month of the transfer window left and clubs may be less keen to sell once the season begins.

No it's not aimed at anyone in particular, it's based on that I've watched Camavinga a few times (probably not nearly as much as you) and I've not been impressed. He looks ok but hasn't stood out as this fantastic player that I keep hearing he is.

The hybrid comment worries me a little too because when I've seen him I can't work out what he is because as you said he does have a bit of everything but I don't think he particularly excels in anything (not yet anyway). He doesn't look like he'd be disciplined enough to play a defensive midfield role at the top level, for me that will take a lot of time and patience to be worked on.

I could be completely wrong but he doesn't look like the player United need to complement Pogba and Bruno.

He is not a good fit for Manure, as I have stated in the past. TBH, Rice would be a much better fit for them. Or Casemiro. Kalvin Phillips to, to a point, although, like Camavinga, he like to wander around further up the field and not be a stay-at-home hammer. Aurélien Tchouaméni would be a better fit as well, as would Wilfred Ndidi.

I feel like the biggest problem with facing City is Guardiola. Given the financial power that City have, I doubt they'll ever have much problem, if any at all, replacing players if they want to. But with Guardiola, it's a different case altogether.

Since he became manager in 2008, he has failed to win a league title only three times. Yes, he has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world and has been able to get the best players around but the consistency that he has been able to get out of his teams is stupid and bonkers. Look at the points total his teams won in their title winning seasons - 87, 99, 96, 90, 79, 88, 100, 98, 86. He did get only 79 points in one of those seasons but 3 of the losses then came after winning the league and also worth remembering that the Bundesliga have 4 less games than in La Liga and the Premier League. Even when he has failed to win the league, the points tally is still reasonably high/high - 91, 78, 81. For context/comparison, we have not gotten more than Guardiola's lowest league points tally of 78 in 8 of the last 11 league seasons. Plus, the two seasons that Guardiola failed to win the Premier League were partly due him to adjusting to the league in 2016/17 and the team having a sudden meltdown in 2019/20 or aka others need to go on a crazy/silly winning run to win it or even stand a chance, like we and Liverpool did. So, the quicker Guardiola leaves City, the better really. It's also silly to see mostly one team dominate the domestic cup competitions, especially the League Cup.

Yeah, league wise. Pep is pretty unreal. It is in cups where he comes unstuck as he seems to over think things.

However, i wouldn't hold your breath on him leaving any time soon, City is completely built around him and I cannot see where he goes.

Real - No way.

Bayern - done it

Another PL club - no chance

Barca - Will need a complete rebuild and he hasn't taken on a project like that before.

Spain - Cannot see him wanting international football until he is in his late 60's.

PSG may be able to convince him somewhere down the line but even that I think is doubtful as he probably see Ligue 1 as a second rate league like most people.

Inclined to agree but IIRC, he did mention before that he would like to coach Inter one day (or was it another Italian club?) some years ago. I don't know if Italian clubs will ever be rich enough to tempt him, apart from maybe Juventus. If not, maybe he will finally feel drained out at City or feel like his time at City is done if they win the Champions League.

Hopefully we never find out.

Tbf, I kind of get the feeling Pep wears a tin foil hat at home. So, one day he may decide to leave for some real random reason.

Here's hoping 😅

While we are seemingly at sleep......this stinks of 17/18 season. We will get somebody the last 2 days of the window.

That summer we did spend, we just brought shit players. We replaced Costa and Magic with vastly inferior players. Imo Summer of 2015 was a summer we should have spent on quality, instead we made no investment and sign players with low chance playing for Chelsea.

For that reason, I don't see any squad players leaving because finding a replacement will be more hassle. Unless we get a direct replacement that strengthens us, no one will be let go.

When we signed Drinky and Morata to replace Matic it signalled a decline. Similarly to when we sold Robben and signed Malouda.

If Barcelona are as fucked as @King Kanteis suggesting I wouldnt be against testing the waters for De Jong.

This article gives a bit of an idea about Barca's situation. However, it doesn't cover the €700m+ debt that is due to mature soon.

Jorginho, Kova, Kante (minutes managed - starts less vs small teams, starts all important/knockout games) are great midfield options.

There is Gilmour to consider since he will likely be pushing for a place in the squad in 2022. I don't see how an 18 year old Camavinga makes sense for us. If anything, a solid screening CDM like Ndidi makes more sense.

Nidi will cost us more than £50 mil so doesn't makes sense to grab a player for rotational .

I get Romano is the supposed transfer god but he is awfully quiet about Chelsea. I know he breathed hot air the other day about Rice but that isn't difficult to link him to us he's best mates with Mount.

Simply put Chelsea are pretty much private behind the scenes and FR hasn't a fucking clue what is happening.

Not necessarily Ndidi but someone of his abilities.
