The goal threat from Alonso came at a big cost to the team balance and defensive solidity imo. Credit to him, he put in good shifts in the two cup finals but he lacked pace which makes a big difference in this wingback system.

I feel Cucurella even without similar assist/goal numbers - will help the team progress the ball up-field and maintain possession there. Should improve our attack as well with his mobility, passing.

You,and @Clockwork, make a good case. I hope it works out this way.

Kind of contradictory, no? Cucurella is “done” but Colwill isn’t. But the move can only happen if they sign Colwill. Which they haven’t. So it can’t be done.

Is it done in a sense that the price and structure is generally agreed to or done as in everything is signed? Kind of a difference.

Levi almost certainly has options so maybe any deal is waiting for Brighton to convince him?

Brighton is the best team for his development. Similar kind of set up to us with the back 3. They also play a possession based game and play out from the back. Ideal team for him to get some PL experience at before we buy him back if he impresses down there.

The concern I guess is that he’s one of those youth players who feels he’s too good for Brighton and will only go to a big club. Of which there are probably plenty in his ear.

If we do actually hold firm interest in a couple of players from Barca, we're better off dragging that one out.

Unlike teams like Brighton and Leicester who will want to bring replacements in so want deals done earlier, Barca want to move players on and off the wage bill to register their new signings. If they find there's a struggle to do this, they may become more desperate to move players out and be prepared to accept terms much more favourable to the buyer.

Chelsea  wanted Raphinha , Lewandowski and Kounde - they went  to Barcelona .

Barcelona get Christensen now want Azpilicueta and Alonso

Chelsea wanted Dest  and now want De Jong .

They connect us with Depay and Aubameyang

I told you this summer is all Chelsea  and Barcelona stories .

Love the look of Carney and think he will be our midfield signing this summer, not De Jong. It seems from all these quotes that he’s staying here and not going out on loan. We still need to shift RLC, Barkley, and Billy in order for him to get some nice minutes, though.

Unless we bring someone else in, RLC for me is the best option we've currently got in the squad to backup Reece at RWB.

Barkley and Gilmour will almost certainly move on, unless they're happy to sit on the fringes like Barkley did last year.

After multiple outlets reported that Cucurella was done and dusted yesterday followed by the Brighton denial, I feel like if we don’t get an actual announcement today we should be worried that the deal has collapsed.

Would be happy it collapsed tbh

Kinda mad how quiet this forum is these day, all the links and rumour and most days this page is very quite. I was reading through redcaf forum yesterday morning and last night and in that time 60 new pages of posts on the de jong topic alone.

Most of that was just noise of one member trying to call out another member for not being as big of a fan. The dialog here is much more to the point without the mud slinging. I was home yesterday with a sinus infection and enjoying the Ornstein fueled meltdown over there.
