Yep. Since when is a player who's yet to even turn 27 considered too old? Fucking hell.

At that age a player is literally just about to hit his peak years and barring injury will continue to play at their best level for the entire 5 year contract. Our squad already has Mount, Pulisic, Havertz and CHO as U23 attacking players so getting some more experienced legs in there can only be a good thing.

Not every player has to be 22 or under when signed, never quite understood the obsession with that. Of course I fully get the idea that younger players usually have more re-sale value and room for improvement in their game, but at the same time because the young guns are still improving they're more often than not wildly inconsistent with their performances.

Would love to sign Gnabry if a deal can be made.

wingers simply do not age well

in the top 50 most valuable wingers on T-Markt

there is ONE over 30 not named Pessi (and Pessi fell off the cliff after 33yo)

the recently turned 31yo  (4 months ago) Riyad Mahrez

if this was the summer of 2021

he would be the only one even 30yo (except for Pessi)

but, of course we now have the recently turned 30yo's

Salah

Neymar

Son

Mane

and all are rapidly dropping in value

We are with the right coach. TT doesn't have  the same pull or attraction to players as Pep or Klopp. If Ancelotti or Mou were our coach, we wouldn't have this problem [Attracting top players.]

I agree with your first sentence but not your second. Incidentally Pep turned us down at least twice and the rumour was that Klopp did too.

Think Leão will be impossible to pry from Milan. He has Real Madrid or PSG for mega money in a season or two written all over him if his development continues. He’d probably cost over 100m this summer.

And they were both right to.

Being Pep Guardiola, and so sought after by Roman, he probably would have survived his first season at Chelsea scraping into the top 4 like he did at City but I think his position would have been a lot more precarious and he wouldn't have been given as much authority on transfer targets as he was at City.

Klopp wouldn't have lasted as long as he has at Liverpool without trophies at Chelsea.

For both their stock was high and Chelsea was just far too of a high risk proposition for them to take. Given the circumstances of leaving Dortmund and then PSG, Tuchel didn't really have anything to lose by trying his hand at Chelsea. It's been widely reported that if it went wrong here, he'd happily go back to managing a less stellar club in the Bundesliga like a Leverkusen.

I feel that the club under Roman was trying to shift away a little more from that hire and fire mentality and you feel that Tuchel would have been given a longer stint so long as the wheels wouldn't completely fall off. But ultimately that perception won't change over night, it'll take years to change.

Fortunately the new ownership can help change that perception much quicker, but until they show their hand with how the club will be run, there will still be those question marks.

We're fortunate that despite the above, we've ended up with Tuchel who in my opinion is a top 5 manager in world football and someone that can hopefully smooth that transition from the old to the new ownership.

Fact is alot of big.money transfers have come not delivered and have been fucked off. Players take note of that, therefor reluctant to come. Am not saying its the only reason by any means.

And what's the alternative build around them and make constant excuses/allowances for them like United do with Maguire?

Accountability is why we can recover from a relative crisis reasonably quickly.

Raphinha

De Ligt

Lewa

all the same situations

If you want us to shop in the same market at this club you need need prepare yourself for this to happen more than it doesn't.

We could have gone for Lenglet, Vieira Richarlison etc and already have had them through the door "nice and early".
