Whatever your thoughts are of Kounde, there is no doubting how highly rated he is by Sevilla and in a normal situation without Covid, I would expect them to be holding out for as close to, if not in full, his release clause. If we are able to buy him for a good amount underneath this clause and he has ranked highly among long term defensive targets then it probably does make sense to do this now. If Zouma, a player who has been nothing more than a backup under Tuchel, helps drive the price down even further then it probably makes the deal even more attractive to the club.

We're once again unlikely to be competing with Madrid and Barcelona who could very well be in for him otherwise, given people's thoughts of him in Spain so it's taking an opportunity that the market has presented.

But how far did Spurs get into negotiating with Sevilla though? If they already got rejected by Kounde first, then the point about Spurs wouldn't have come close to his release clause is kinda moot.

But even if that's not the case, someone else here mentioned that Spurs wanted to throw in Davinson Sanchez into the deal and his market value is €32 million (if one takes the transfermarkt evaluation).

I suppose it all comes down to what value Spurs and Sevilla place on Sanchez in the same way that Chelsea and Sevilla do. I would personally say that Zouma is the better player but both being backups there probably isn't a whole lot of difference in their valuations.

It probably is also a case of different sources or interpretations quoting different figures in euros and pounds. In pounds that release clause is £68m, so a £50m price point wouldn't look completely illogical then.

If Kehl had said something vague instead about Haaland's future, you would be jumping for joy, wouldn't you? 

Obviously, what Kehl said could be true or not, but it's pretty much in line with their stance over Haaland this year.

Obviously, what Kehl said could be true or not, but it's pretty much in line with their stance over Haaland this year. 

Not really you can never believe anything these guys say positive or negative.

I believe he said that in Romano's podcast where he was a guest speaker to talk about Haaland.

If Dortmund's internal deadline for 1st week of August is true (which I would be inclined to believe) then we'll know something soon enough. Either the club will soon step up and go all-in with a massive bid that's simply too good for Dortmund to refuse or just give up on the whole thing. Whatever happens it won't drag till the end of the window, which is good for everyone.

So Lukaku strongly and definitively ruled out. Likewise Lewandowski. Kane is impossible for obvious reasons. Griezmann’s wages are apparently so stratospheric that he’s a no-go. Plus he only wants to live in Spain.

Ironically, Haaland is the only one that hasn’t been 100%, stone cold locked to stay. It’s always “well, we don’t expect him to leave.” Or “we’re planning with Erling.” As though if a massive enough bid comes in and Haaland indicates he’s willing to go they’ll at least listen.

Still, not looking likely for any of the very top crop. Maybe there’s something creative the club have lined up as a contingency. Or perhaps we just try for Rice and wait til next summer for a striker.

Sevilla are after Kabak 17m and Boateng free so I doubt they accept Zouma.

Kounde is a good buy at this time. He is young and is a good passer. We have not have a good ball CB since David Luiz. 

If he can defend a bit better then David Luiz then worth it. If not sell him since he is young. 

I remember Ashley Cole was small as well and that didn't stop us from winning things. 

After Kounde I assume the CM will be a big player, like Rice. I wonder if SMS is still good?
