That wasn't The Athletic saying that, but a rando city correspondent on a podcast. Nevertheless seems likely to happen

"It is understood that both parties are willing to finalise a deal and while no bid has been made yet, it is expected imminently. Personal terms are still to be agreed."

Just saying The Athletic didn't ever say its a done deal. Still seems like its happening. Just hope it happens fast and we can move on to other targets.

Raheem Sterling: Chelsea approach Manchester City over possible signing

Raheem Sterling: Chelsea approach Manchester City over possible signing.

Chelsea have approached Manchester City over the possible signing of England winger Raheem Sterling, The Athletic understands.

The Athletic reported in June that Chelsea were growing in confidence that they could complete a deal for a player available for a cut-price fee this summer because he only has one year left to run on his contract.

Sterling is thought to have spoken to Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel about what life is like at the club, and one source believes the only stumbling block to a deal being completed is the size of the fee.

It is understood that both parties are willing to finalise a deal and while no bid has been made yet, it is expected imminently. Personal terms are still to be agreed.

In Sterling’s seven years at City, he has scored 131 goals in 339 appearances for the reigning Premier League champions.

He joined City from Liverpool for an initial £44 million in July 2015 and has gone on to win four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez's arrivals, plus the form of the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez, has meant there will be fierce competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI next season.

City’s first game of the 2022-23 season will be against West Ham United at the London Stadium on August 7.

Yes, I understand he's a bit polarizing (understatement), and can be predictable at times, as someone else pointed out here. In the end of the day tho, Sterling is a good player and one who would certainly add quality to any team in the PL.

I just don't see his characteristics as something we lack; quite the opposite actually, I think we have an overabundance of players of his style and position.

Lukaku's situ is hard to read. It could be the club trying to make him lower his wages, so we pay less during the loan. The club might think it's not worthwhile to pay a high percentage of his wages when he's playing elsewhere, so let's "see" how much Lukaku really wants to join Inter.

For £15m I'd take a gamble.

Evident we need another holding midfielder this season, unless we want to take our chances with Ampadu/Gilmour.

Rabiots not really a holding midfielder though, he’s more box to box although I think he’s likely flexible enough to play as a 6. Not sure how he’s done for Juve but he used to be a very good, well rounder midfielder.

There seems to be a pattern developing that Tuchel’s input was not being taken serious. Tuchel wants De Ligt and Marina wanted to finish her deal to acquire Kounde. It seems that in every instance that there is a major difference, Boehly is backing Tuchel and showing people the door, or allowing them to leave immediately that want to challenge Tuchel’s idea of what the team should be. I hope the players are aware of this.

Did you just make this up? Or is there a source?

I thought it was very well stated Tuchel was impressed by Kounde and wanted him last summer to be our RCB in a back 3. No?

There seems to be much more talk re Boehly leaning heavily on Tuchel for his input as opposed to under previous managers with Roman due to the circumstances re Marina and Cech leaving but until we sign a couple of players we won’t truly know. And if this is a long term strategy or temporary to a DoF comes in and they can sort of delegate/pick up some of the slack and maybe allow Tuchel to work more on coaching (although obviously to be on same page and have his opinions taken in as I am sure he did under with Marina) or even to take some of the responsibility off of Boehly so he can focus on other areas too.

For me, Tuchel has always said and hinted he is much more at home focusing on coaching as opposed to the politics of the media handling and transfers so we have to see. He has had disputes before regarding transfers when being more involved and he has openly admitted this about his time at Paris and Dortmund so he might not want to be as hands on as he will be this summer (until we get things up and running with regards to the structuring of the club with the changes and a DoF).

Yes, that actually was reported by a few sources when marina left and the de ligt interest ramped up. Don't ask me to find those though, about a billion other articles came out since then.

I think Tuchel was in favor if Kounde last window. De Ligt was not a possibility at that time.

there are better articles about Marina pushing but this sums it up also.
