Then doesn't that bring the argument that we should simply do a Klopp/us in 2020 and wait it out if genuine upgrades aren't attainable?

For example, if we can't get Haaland is any of our realistic striker options at present less of a risk than playing Broja let alone Havertz? Who knows who will have a breakthrough in the next 12 months, the former himself could be one.

Likewise since Hakimi has gone my preference has shifted to promote Livramento.

Feel like we’ve been over the Liverpool example before. The difference between them waiting it out and ourselves is that they had two attackers who were in world class goal scoring form plus Firmino. They also had world class attacking play from both fullbacks.

It’s easy to sit back and wait it out when you’re a title winning caliber side. When you’re miles and miles off the top of the table like we were (and have been for 3-4 years now) I don’t think we can afford to wait. We’ll surely never be in a stronger position than now coming off European glory and with other competitors for targets strapped for cash.

Welp...

- Five clubs have expressed interest in Bate - West Ham, Leeds, Liverpool, Leicester and Brighton. West Ham and Leeds are the two clubs pushing the hardest and are believed to have made an offer.

- Peart-Harris is the most advanced of the three in terms of securing his departure. Reportedly on the verge of moving to Brentford.

- Livramento is being strongly targeted by Brighton.

- All 3 have one year left on their current contracts and are refusing to sign extensions. All 3 concerned over the chance of first-team football in the long term.

See again

Thought as much. 🤣 Pretty sure the auto-correct can still be turned off, no?

Judging by Simon Johnson said, it seems like Livramento is determined to leave because we still have Azpi and James and the club tried to sign Hakimi and are still interested in Traore.

The period I was referring too was not when they were a title challenging side.

It was his early spell (also pre Robertson and Trent too) where his team were conceding goals like no tomorow and despite that he still resisted relentless calls to sign any Tom, Dick or Harry to "fix" it.

And unlike us in the forward department those players didn't really have the scope to improve.

Ah. I thought you were talking about 2 summers ago when they made zero signings.

I just don’t really understand why Tuchel wouldn’t give him a shot, especially at the risk of losing him. He’s played with the first team since Tuchel’s appointment and won our YPOTY. Rotating between him and James could be an ideal solution in a position that is hardly a pressing matter.

Not sure if it's really all Tuchel's fault here.

But it does feel like we're back to pre-2019 again when it comes to the young players. We are still all about the here and now and/or buying players from outside. Mount, James etc got somewhat lucky with the transfer ban in 2019.

Lamptey got a shot and did good but still nothing changed.

Or if you are clever take what you can get transfer wise and lose the wages...not difficult

Very difficult actually. See Real Madrid and Gareth Bale. Our players are not earning Bale size money but the problem remains the same . They won't take pay cuts, potential buyers won't pay their wages and will start negotiations from position of asking us to give the player away plus subsidise his wages.

Whatever the reason that Tino has not had a look in yet the matter now seems to have been taken out of TT's hands. Training with the 16's is a very, very bad sign

We’ll regret this more than Lamptey I reckon.

These youth players of ours (and young players in general) are starting to get more and more impatient when they watch players like Bellingham, Pedri, etc breaking into first teams as teenagers and want to get their senior careers started ASAP. They don’t want to get churned around in the loan system for a couple of years.

Was always going to happen to us at some point with some of them. Just have to hope the club inserts first refusal clauses in the sales and avoids selling to rivals.
