To each to their own, i still don't trust Christensen to do well in a back four.

Understood. I just think that, based on what he has done for us lately, there is no possibility of the club concluding that Andreas is a disposable asset. For that assessment to change he would have to fail to perform, in whatever system, over a stretch of games and that's not going to happen this side of the transfer window closing. My bet remains on there being zero possibility that Chelsea are prepared to include Andreas as a make wait in a transfer a package.

Its probably better for Inter to get a straight fee for Hakimi and still buy Emerson separately for some weird debt write-off reasons. Reckon Emerson might be an advantage for us even if he isnt in the deal directly.

Imagine being a left sided attacker or defender and having to deal with both Hakimi and Reece James at the same time.

It would be seriously taking the piss. 😂😂😂

If Christensen is a liability in a back 4, then so is Rudiger. Both of them have done their best work in a back 3, first under Conte and then Tuchel.

I agree. For me, both have flaws in a 4 man defence.

My biggest concern at times with Christensen in a 4 is being bullied, whilst Rudiger is the other end of the spectrum where his aggressive nature can end up leaving him out of position or ball watching.

A back 5 limits those weaknesses whilst accentuating their strengths. Rudiger on the side can play aggressive knowing he has both a wing back and a spare centre back either side of him. Christensen meanwhile can play the spare man where he can read the game and cover. It also plays to the strength's of Thiago Silva at his age now, and Azpilicueta and even James if Tuchel wants to use him in the back 3.

In this system, Christensen and Rudiger are arguably world class. It would be foolish for Tuchel to tinker too much with this system. By all means work on more attack minded options if we're chasing a game which could switch us into a back 4 but given how well the current system has worked defensively, that must be the building block for everything else Tuchel wants to do.

Andreas is an ideal ascension plan for when Thiago Silva leaves in a year. I hope Tuchel convinces him to sign a new contract and stick around even though he would be behind Rudiger and TS at the start of next season.

'Succession' might be a better word. 🙂

Agreed that he would be behind Thiago & Rudi but given the need to manage Thiago's minutes, and Thiago's injury record last season, Andreas can reasonably expect a satisfying level of involvement. Someone pointed out above we could play 65 games next season. Potentially plenty of minutes to spread around.

(Actually I think the theoretical maximum is more than 65 even if the League Cup semi-finals do not return to the two-legged format which is assumed in the 65 number.)

I could be wrong but I think even if we bombed out of all the cups at the first hurdle we still have a minimum of 48 games. Realistically we're looking at 55-60 games in all likelihood.

Also factor in international fixtures (including the AFCON mid season), the Euro's this summer and the World Cup next summer and it is an insane amount of football across our squad over the next 12 months. I think we have the most players at the Euros for any club in Europe and will likely be up there again for the World Cup.

Tuchel clearly trusts Christensen, and I see this coming season a role reversal during it where Christensen is the one preferred for the 'big' games and Thiago Silva may end up playing more against the 'lesser' teams. He'll play a huge role this season regardless.

With Haaland and Hakimi we could be freaking amazing

Against bigger teams

...........................Mendy

........Reece...Silva/AC...Rudiger

Hakimi.....................................Chilwell

...........Kante.............Kova/Jorgi

.......Havertz.........................Mount

..........................Haaland

Against smaller teams using park the bus tactic

...........................Mendy

........Reece...Silva/AC...Rudiger

Hakimi.....................................Chilwell

...........Kante.............Mount

.......Havertz.........................Werner

..........................Haaland

We may also need a backup for Kante, someone like Tchouameni

So hoping Marina is able to close the 2 deals

Okay so once Inter agrees on the value then we have to wait to see if Real Madrid will match that offer?

No. Assuming that the clause makes the purchase mandatory, i.e. that the player has no right to turn down the transfer, we could negotiate directly with Real over a settlement for them to waive the buy-back. They of course would ask us to write off the remainder of Eden's transfer fee, we would offer a green Smartie, and the negotiation would proceed from there.

Kovacic is technically Kante's backup. Tchouameni would be a backup to Jorginho as they are both the sitters.

This isn't how the first refusal work. If Real match our bid for Hakimi, Inter have to accept Real's bid.

Hakimi also played a lot on the left for Dortmund, would be nice to have 2nd option there that can actually run.

I didn't know that. Assuming he is effective on the left then that would make getting him a lot more attractive. Not attractive enough to justify losing Andreas but more attractive all the same.

Gladbach at that time were mostly used the back three.

really?

your credibility is on thin ice m8

you should know better than to just make up shite with someone like me around

AC played 53 games as a back 4 CB pairing in 20015/17

far more than any other position, and he was better as a pair than in a back 3 CB set-up

AC was a DMF a few times, a RB once, injured in a few, and on the bench in the very beginning of 2015/16 3 times

Gladbach played a back four 65 times

far more than any other setup

and far better as a record, including some great results in the CL
