The way I see the CB situation is as follows:

1) Last season AC, Rudi, Zouma and Tomori as a unit where not good enough. For sure, they have there individual qualities but each and everyone of them have serious flaws.

2) We desperately lack any sort of organisation at CB and none of the four are a leader.

Thus, for me with the current four, it is kind of a 'pick your poison' choice. If you value positional sense and reading of the game, you like AC. If you value strength and speed, you like Zouma. If you want someone that will rough up players off the ball and try to intercept high up the pitch, you like Rudi. If you like a quick covering defender, who is fairly good at attacking the ball, you like Tomori. Either way, Silva is coming in and starting and going to act as ringmaster.

At this point you have to question who can actually be controlled/is going to benefit from such a player. I would personally say Rudi is the least likely one to listen as he just seems to do his own thing, whilst I also question who much Zouma can as well, owing to him still playing exactly the same way as he was five/six years ago and he had the opportunity to play/train with players like JT and Cahill. That for me is why Zouma gets sold, probably got the best rep out of the four/has highest transfer value but shown he cannot play in a team that plays out from the back.

After that, we may have a situation were Sarr is brought in and is going into the first team. At that point I think all bets are off on who leaves. My money would be on Tomori via loan or sale with buyback as he is probably the easiest to shift. AC could possibly go if Gladbach still like him and need a CB.

Either way, last season all four of the CB's played like utter arse clowns on numerous occasions, so if two are culled, lets not cry too much as they were all pretty much equally to blame.

I just flashed back to my childhood days, playing pokemon on the gameboy and having to choose between charmander, bulbasaur or squirtle.

A total pro like him will be a week vacation and at it, he's THAT type.

It would really help if Brazil don't call him for pointless friendlies next week in Japan. Same for Havertz really. This week is pretty much lost even if he signs tomorrow in terms of training with us because by the end of the week he should be back in Germany  if he asks to stay here maybe Low would understand?

Potential Bargain Of The Summer – Malang Sarr

https://www.elartedf.com/malang-sarr/

If he is good like how it is being touted around ... why arent majority of the big ones going after the bargain of the summer? Even his own club didnt try to cash on him. Something doesnt seem right ...

If chilwell will replace emerson

Can sarr replace alonso and maybe even christensen as backup lb and 2nd backup cb

Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk

I think he could

and this is the last window to get anything much for Alonso, as he turns 30 soon (2 days after Boxing Day)

I have always had a love for multi positional players

the second greatest back ever (IMHO, after Beckenbauer) Paolo Maldini, could play (and excel to an all century team level at multiple ones, especially as a CB and then a right-footed left back) all three CB positions, sweeper, left back, right back, DMF., and even CMF

its one of the reason I so want Theo Hernandez, as I think he has massive LCB potential (look at his brother, who is smaller, he plays LCB and LB)

Rice is another, as he can play both CB and DMF

Havertz is ultra versatile, he cam play anywhere in the MF (except DMF), either wing (better on the RW though), AMF, a classic No. 10, as a SS, as a false 9, a classic solo 9, and in a dual striker role. (hello 4 4 2 with a double 6 (Rice and Kante in the dual pivot with Rice the deeper, or Rice and my dream signing there, Camavinga) and then Werner as the left CF, Havertz as the right CF)

would so so love to see Ampadu come good in a huge way (he is a DMF/CB hybrid), and maybe we would not even need to make a move for Camavinga, but I do not see this at all, unfortunately, ATM

Sarr is very much a wild card as well, he has huge upside

plus, in a couple years he (hopefully he explodes) the mother of all huge technical CB's coming up to the top team in Xavier Mbuyamba

we have a WC (even at his age I still think he is showing he is there, or damn close) for 2 years (especially the coming season) in Thiago Silva

so looking ahead to 2022/23

if things REALLY fall into place

our choices at CB (as Silva will be gone by then)

could be (Rudiger and the rest will be sold by then)

Mbuyamba (provided he lives up to his crazy talent)

Upamecano (next season he is my number one CB target)

Sarr (if we get him)

Rice (if he is not playing DMF)

Tomori (unless he is a bust)

Marc Guehi (o clue if he is good enough, its 50/50 atm)

and Ampadu in the mix (if he comes good, but I see him at DMF)

that is potentially an INSANE (and still so young, but many are vets even now) CB corps

I thik the only good enough CB avaiable right now (giminex is too expensive) is Skriniar, but we will need to liquidate a lot of players to buy him

DMF options (Kante long gone by then, same for Jorginho)

Rice (CB option as well)

Camavinga (can play anywhere in the MF)

Amapadu (CB option as well)

Conor Gallagher (can play anywhere in the MF) if he comes good

wild card Trevoh Chalobah

I don ot think Jake Clarke-Salter is goig to make it, he is 23yo in weeks and is not making big strides

Fullbacks

If Reece doesn't actually go up to top level (I have faith he will), then I so hope we look at Nordi Mukiele or Sergiño Dest as competition

Wild Card Dujon Sterling (woud be MASSIVE is he came good, I rate him still, but he is soon 21 (2  months from now) and needs to start showing top level skills. He is a great size (1.86m) and is a good athlete, He had a HORRID hamstring tear though, and is still struggling with it.

LB should be fine with Chilwell and Sarr, but if we do not get Sarr, then ffs, go for Theo, as we will need a left footed CB for certain games, and he can play there I am sure), or, IF he explodes as I thik he might (and is available) Nuno Mendes, a potential beast (1.84m, like Theo, and strong pacy as well) Nuno Mendes of Sporting (he is only 19 now, but we are talking 2, 3 years down the road) and finally, of course Ian Maatsen, who I am not convinced on yet (plus he is so short) but am keeping an open mind

When will we start selling dross, though? Emerson looks done, but what about Barkley, Batshuayi? May be harsh but I don't want them anywhere neat the first team.

Lets hope soon, otherwise we're going to have enough players at Cobham to fill  three teams.

Michy seems to be getting a lot of attention.

Leeds, Newcastle, Benfica.

Emerson is done, Baka is done.

Jorginho is getting rumored to Roma, but they need to raise funds through Diawara (arsenal) and Schkik (Leverkusen)

Surprisingly no rumors for Barkley as of yet, but thats one player we wont find hard to offload given that he is "English".

Hopefully, we get offers for Alonso (sevilla), Jorginho (roma) and barkley and sell them off soon.

I seem to be alone on this but i have absolutely no qualms with keeping Barkley aslong as he knows his place regarding minutes. He always seems to have one month a season where he performs to his hype (under Sarri it was October, last season it was just before lockdown) and with such a congested schedule that could come in very handy, especially if it coincides with a Havertz/Mount/Ziyech injury.

But would not it be overkill?

Kante, Kova, Kai, Mount, Gilmour, RLC. Ziyech can play as a no.8/10 too. Just way too many CAMs. I

Let's assume Jorgi, Billy and Kante will play the deeper role. That leaves Havertz, Mount, Kova, RLC, and Barkley for two positions. Have no qualms if he stays and accepts a squad role but the competition is so much that I think he will leave

I personally only see Gilmour at DM/DLP, he looks a fish out of water playing higher up. Kai or Ziyech will likely take one CM position while the other is a winger.

So that leaves a 5 (for the two 8 positions) of Kai/Ziyech, Mount, Kova, RLC, Ross. Given next seasons schedule and RLC's injury phroneness (not to mention the doubts around his suitability for FL's system and whether or not his form at the back end of 18/19 was an outliner) i think we can do a lot worse than keep Barkley as an insurance policy (if, as i said, he's happy to play that role).

I assume you are talking about Sarr
I had him down as a good option for left back months ago
he played there more than a few times
zero issues signing him on a free
hell, try him out at DMF

He played 27 matches as a LB since he started playing in Ligue 1.
This season he played 7 times as LB. He seems fast and has a nice technique. But I am not so sure if he is offensive enough for LB, but at least he seems solid from a defensive point of view. So sell Alonso and Emerson? Would be nice.

German fans are going nuts that Sarr is going to us lol. They started insulting us, that we are a disgrace for getting him for free [emoji23]. He was linked with Bayer Leverkusen and BVB.

This window is nuts. Imagine before the season begins we will have signed 7 absolute quality players. If we get Havertz, a LB, Sarr, Silva and a GK I think we can actually mount a title challenge already. Getting an elite oyung talent in Sarr who apparently half of europe wants would be immense. Also a nice touch getting him for free. On theplayer himself i have not seen much but he looks a more polished version of Tomori just so composed. Maybe not as overpowered in terms of pace but more comfortable on the ball.

As for the dregs I think we will not be able to sell most bc of the pandemic but I could imagine loaning out a few and basically sitting it out this way. next year we might get better prices for some esp if they have impressed in their loans.
