He still is all of that but he simply has never been a consistent influence on football games. He sometimes shows a glimpse which keeps everyone hoping and waiting but it is not enough and never has been.

He is physically damaged goods, so he is no longer the complete package IMHO.

Our response to the setback of Leandro Trossard’s goal couldn’t have been better. In fact, the Seagulls did not even touch the ball between their goal and the spectacular strike blasted in by James.

There were 19 passes in total in the lead-up to the goal, starting with Werner kicking off. Jorginho played four of them, including the final one that James took in his stride before chancing his arm.

That is quite impressive. A strong response.

A bit off topic, is it just me that I feel players were just not that excited/happy after scoring goals? I guess it’s mainly down to no audience at the stadium?

Everyone noticed that, it's not a good sign, that's for sure.
But the causes can be several, some easier to overcome than others, something that has to be in the hand of the coach.

There are some pictures with some players looking strangely at others, for example there are 2 pictures recently with Odoi looking strangely at Havertz, the way the Academy clan received these players may not have been the best.

But it can also be the result of everyone's frustration because they are feeling uncomfortable in yesterday's game, the tactical disorder, the dominance of a theoretically inferior Brighton ...

something to review over the next few games

People slating James towards the end of last season should bury their heads in shame...the guy is class...

Guy was out of shape after Covid.

Hence is foolish to make decisions so soon.

Similar now many players are not fit and look hap hazard. I mean look at Kai giving some wasted passes.

Let's wait a month or two so that player can get up to speed.

Football without fans it's not same. That's the beauty of this sport.

That being said, the players who scored had a smile on their face tho.

I got really angry during the game.
I was very excited before this one, I was looking forward to the first game, obviously it’s not about results.

I expected an evolution and a step ahead of Frank Lampard.
It was horrible to relive the worst feelings of last season.
We really have a problem in the bench, not a source of solutions, it is a big problem.

I have to say that Brighton is an interesting project, they have a good coach, a good coach maximizes the resources he has.

I don't know if anyone asked, but the question that Lampard had to ask is what is the explanation for starting a player who is not capable of running, winning a duel, making a pass or receiving a ball.

The line-up didn't have any logic, it didn't seem to have been trained, the players didn't know what to do on the field.

It was a pain to watch this game. More than an hour of RLC in the field.
From Russia, South Africa, Brazil, United States, Indonesia.
Everyone asked for this substitution from the first 10 minutes of the game.

James' individual genius, in that courageous action, saved the day.
He gave us the 3 points.
I couldn't even taste that masterpiece well.

But this is not about 3 points.

We are not going anywhere without a capable commander.

A lot of improvisation out there. It's like a free for all. Kick and run and let's see what happens. No support, nothing...

I was saying more to myself WDF than WOW... This isn't my CFC...

I wanted a win and no injuries, so im happy. But how did Brighton look fitter? It was a grind but one that gave us 3pts, we will get much better once we get fit and gel, not to mention our injured ones returning.

But Lamps has to figure out a system and it can only go too slow, select your first 11 and stick to it, it wont come now but I expect it within 2 months.....otherwise he will be knows as the tinker.

I never thought of the way you mentioned and I think maybe you have read a little bit too much from it. I genuinely think it’s mainly down to no fans at the stadium and players’ excitements of scoring have no audience to echo with, I guess. I saw Salah scored and he showed almost no emotion about it.

TBF, Brighton started their pre-season much earlier, played some games, did not have many players away on INT duty and I think did not have players in quarantine.

IIRC they said Brighton had 4 on INT and we had 13. Brighton also seemed to have more players gassed at the end.

There's no fans in the stadium. Most of the celebrations are a bit subdued for that reason there's no atmosphere. This is really some pure tinfoil stuff to speculate they don't care or want to play for Frank etc.

Brighton were always going to look fitter. They played more preseason games had a full preseason with most of the squad. We had like 5 days.

Jorginho got an injury and was subbed off.

Whoscored has Alonso as our best rated player from last season so not sure how much I would trust them.

Havertz was not better than Mount yesterday but he has free pass in the beginning.

And what about the "facts".

Mount had as many key passes, more tackles won, 39 passes with a better pass%. Surprising how one had a MoTM performance for you, and another was below average.
