That's all fine. But it doesn't mean we have to pay 30m+ to get an English CB. 00s was the Golden Generation of English football. If you look now, where are the Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Gerrard, Scholes, and Rooney?

English football is at a low point. We already have a strong core in Hazard, Matic, Courtois, Costa, Cesc, and Azpi. That's the new core. We can get English players tat are valued at their true valuation rather than over-paying to get an English core.

Barca in 2006 had 2 Spanish outfield players start their UCL final.

Madrid in 2014 also had 2.

Barca again in 2015 had 3.

This idea that we have to have an English core is out-dated. Players move around Europe at a young age now.

The fact that we need to increase our HQ quota is clear as day. We are yet to give youth a chance (bought Filipe, Falcao, Juan, etc). Until we make our own stars or at least given them a chance to shine, we'll have to keep buying English talent. In addition, who's replacing JT when he retires?

Don't see Zouma being the answer if he ain't starting ahead of the inferior Cahill.

No clue why we are offering 20m or more to get this guy. Sure for a CB he has good composure on the ball but his defending isn't all that great, his first season under Martinez, everything went right with Everton and sure you could tell he was a talented player but also last season that Everton defense was a mess at times and he like the rest of the backline was at fault for it. Even more baffled considering we bought Zouma, who I am sure is younger, a better CB at present, a better prospect and has more experience despite his age.

Sure JT won't go on forever but Stones? I don't feel hes the right buy, I'd be pretty disappointed if we signed him for anything over 20 million and that was our work done in the transfer window. If it was 10-14m okay but anything more than that would be a bad deal to be honest. I get we want English players but no point overpaying for such guys. I've read we would be paying more than the money Manchester United bought Rio Ferdinand for....

Everton had already told Chelsea John Stones was off-limits before £20m bid

Sounds like Stones may have to force the issue for this transfer to happen...

Was always going to be the case.

New TV money means that the smaller teams can't be forced into selling anymore. At least not nearly as easily. Stones will probably have to make his situation untenable there for us to get him.

Home grown doesn't = English. Cesc, Begovic, Moses are all home grown. Ake is also homegrown.

I'm aware of that, but they're similar.

not when it comes to prices. a Belgian home grown is way cheaper than an English home grown. and since we're apparently opperating on a 'break-even' financial plan, I'd like us to stay clear of young English players rated highly by the English media. Buy the established English players that have lost their "future England savior" tag. Guys like Milner, Delph, Clyne. These sort of players are available each window. Fill the squad player roles with English players, and the stars that are foregin, as they come cheap. I mean, we got Azpi and Cahill for 7m, Oscar for 20m, Matic for 21m, Cesc for 27m, and got Hazard and Costa for 32m.

Stones is appearing to be more expensive than all of them. not sound business.

Why are people are so confident that Stones will sign this summer?

Barring an astronomical bid Everton have little incentive to sell right now. They have a shortage of CBs (rather than a shortage of cash), Stones is unlikely to kick up much of a fuss and his value will only rise.

The majority of players you mentioned aren't HG. HG/English are almost the same thing. I get the fact that prices are more inflated for the latter, but that's more likely seeing as most HG players are British. The number of foreign HG players is minimal.

You missed my point. The players I listed are our star players. They can be bought at reasonably cheap prices. We can fill the HG/British quota by buying squad players like Delph, Milner, Clyne, etc. Instead of having squad players like Ramires, Mikel, Falcao, Remy, etc. we can buy English players for those role, as they will come far more cheaper.

A star level English player from now on is going to cost 40-50m because teams are going to have the new TV deal money next year. While a star foreign player is going to cost 25-35m (ala Sanchez, Costa, Hazard, Aguero, etc.)

Milner cost £26m five years ago. I get your point, but most of them won't want to sit on the bench. Milner would have been ideal for us, but wanted to be a starter. It's easy to pinpoint players, but trying to convince them to sit on the bench more often than not is much harder. Most English players like to have their say about such predicaments.

and why did Milner cost 26m 5 years ago? Because he was young.

We convinced Begovic to come sit on the bench. Jose could have gotten Milner if he wanted, but he prefers Ramires and Mikel right now.

I just think that we should focus on bringing through the likes of RLC, Solanke, Boga, and Musonda. That right there is our home grown quota for the next 10 years.

It's much more financially sound. These young players have no qualms about being squad players and not starting every game.

It's looking like the orders to Mourinho are that these young players need to come through now. that's why he's sounding out about lack of transfer activity.

He was a decent player for three British clubs beforehand as well. I don't see Begovic being a certain number 2 at all. If Thibo has some bad games, Begovic could take full advantage and possible become our number 1.

Finally, I totally agree with your last point as we need to see our youth players be given a chance, but I also think the money is there if Mou wants it. Juan being the main example of that.

That cash could be used to get several CBs. Maybe not as talented but sometimes depth is better than raw talent.
