Lol he was good but you remember Arsenal had 10 men for however long and didn't try and pressure the ball at all so he had the space and time to play those passes. Sure hes a great player I'd take him but not just because of tonight where he played well against 10 men trying to not pressure the ball...

Not to nitpick, but Costa has a £32M release clause. Mandzukic would be available on the cheap I reckon, Bayern don't seem to rate him that highly and the arrival of Lewandowski just confirms that Pep wants to change what kind of player he wants his striker to be and remember they only paid like £10M for him or so. (By on the cheap I mean cheap for a top team like us - £20-£30M). Lukaku will be a great 2nd choice striker for next season but he's not ready to lead our line just yet.

I just feel like a lot of clubs will be in the striker market this summer so maybe if you are going for the Cavani and Suarez type players there won't be an inflation of price, but their fee's are ridiculous already. Mandzukic will cost at least 30m and Costa at least 40m after their respective bidding wars are all said and done. Still not Fernando Torres money but not far off.

As for the £40-70M flop thing you have all of the history to back you up (and maybe i'm just being an optimist) but I keep thinking that we've had our bad luck/stupidity with Shevchenko, Crespo and Torres. Just got a good feeling that the next one can be that star we have been looking for in ages.

Gambler's mentality, something I do not posses.

Finally, signing a striker for cheap won't make any difference to us if they flop like an expensive purchase. Yes there might be less pressure on them due to the lower price tag, but if they're going to lead the line for Chelsea, then it doesn't matter how much they cost, they're still going to be under the same insatiable scrutiny from Blue fans, pundits and media alike.

Should they fail we are are still in a position to make profit or at least come away clean, if they came here with a huge bill we will never recover all of it. Ideally you don't care about recovering any cash you just want goals, but that isn't ideal thinking for clubs other than ours. To be fair watching Diego Costa a bit while he was in the Portuguese League has always made it easy for me to brush him aside, he proved me wrong and became a far better player than I expected. Mandzukic just doesn't have enough talent for the player I feel we need to fill the role. The more I look around at the options, the more I feel they are scraps. The club will likely go for a big name signing, I just think my route is affordable and unexpected I'd also expec it will probably have similar results (any other group of strikers would have a much higher goal tally by now). Lukaku would be national sensation by now if he had been with us since September.

not in a million years will bayren not give him a truck load of money to stay. Hes the best midfielder in the world, hands down.

Christ, One good performance and now he's the best midfielder in the world? He's not even the best midfielder at Bayern!

I hear lot of people hear he is world class and wonderful player to come here etc...but you forget one thing. He plays for Bayern, their possesion based football is completely diferent than ours. Bayern played our style last year and Kroos was important but not nearly half as important and good as he is this year. Bayern this year plays possesion and passing football where Kroos has no other job but to pass/shot and create.

Try Kroos in our system, where we play on counters and Toni is teribly slow runner, and to say he isnt exactly hard worker. If any, we would need injury-free Gundogan who is faster and much better suited to counter football; on and off the ball.

But heck, Toni wont come anyway, Bayern wont sell him and he wont leave them.

Hah both of you are exagerrating. He isnt best midfielder in the world (duh) but neither was that his only good performance this season. He has been good everytime he played. But definately he isnt the one CM we need, nor is he the available one.

The only other time I saw him this year was in the SuperCup and didn't think much of him. Don't think he'd come here anyway, Guardoila will be filling his head about how Mourinho is the reason for cancer and such an such.

Such stats are distorted and pointless given what happened in the game yesterday

Giving what happened yesterday with the red card, where arsenal had to defend like how EPL teams do against us, he was perfect. He'll suit us against all these teams that sit deep. His shooting from outside the box is already the best in german league and i think its top 5 in europe.

He is like a young lampard with far better passing in controlling games.

He's like a pivot made Lampard, honestly against teams that we do find difficult to break down he'd be a fantastic weapon.

If he doesn't get a new contract at Bayern we'd be stupid to not offer for him. He also provides another great option at CAM (more creative than Oscar) should we need to push him up there.

It would be a great signing. Only player in his mold I'd probably sign over him is Gundogan.

And what was the stat comparison for then? Doesn't even seem to reflect/imply what you subsequently said...
