Torres just announced his retirement and the Chelsea official website came up with that famous and heavily used line :D

Quote

A World Cup-winner and a European champion with Spain, he joined Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011 with his most memorable highlights with us including his Champions League semi-final breakaway against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, which made certain that the team would go through to our famous final in Munich, and the goal that helped beat Benfica to lift the Europa League trophy a year later. He also won the corner from which Didier Drogba headed our equaliser against Bayern Munich in the first of those two European finals.

'He won the corner.' :D

In hindsight, if we had 'football' people at the club, his signing wouldn't of happened. Just look at Liverpool with Fekir. They saw his knee scans, and realised the risk of investment he would be.

Torres was a player who strived on pace, power, and athleticism. He lost almost all of his pace through countless hamstring injuries and the meniscus tear in his right knee. After the world cup, it was evident he wasn't half the player anymore. Taking all of that into consideration, the fact we splashed 50 million on a player who didn't have tools to perform as good as he did, was a mockery.

Still, thanks for winning the corner. :)

Someone coming close to telling the truth about Fernando.

I got so much stick for telling people that Nando was a very ordinary footballer. Got called an idiot and worse. I was so depressed the day we signed him and now Carragher confirms what Danny Murphy had previously admitted. Liverpool people knew the reality. Of course they did.

Why do I say Carragher only comes close to the truth? Because he perpetuates the myth that Nando was ever a top player. He had a brief good period at Liverpool but that was very much the exception across the whole of his career. The rest of his time tells of what he really was as a footballer.
