If Mata does leave, where can he excel?

Prior to all the transfers tottenham conducted, I thought the Spurs and Mata was a match made in heaven. However, with ericksen and lamela, I don't think they would need him......

If this is anything to go by 'A source told Sunday Mirror Sport that even the players are surprised by Jose Mourinho's treatment of the Spaniard' then its another AVB v dressing room situation.

On his day Mata is one of the best no.10 in the world. But it is true. Real has Isco, Modric. Barca does not even feature a no.10 int heir system, Bayern have an army of no.10s just like us, City has Silva, even Arsenal got Özil and Tottenham have bought every half-decent player. The only place where he would be more than needed is ManU, but we won't sell him to them, cos they did not give us Rooney. So literally there is only PSG who could use AND afford him. that is why i can see him stay here beyond January. We will have enough games for him to feature in. Thing is i do not see him succed as RW. He is a no10 and nothing else. But with Mourinho who always wants his CAM to help out defensively I can even see KDB starting over him in that position. Out of all our six AMs he is probably the worst winger but the best no.10. No idea how Mou can overlook that. With all three maestros playing, which is IMO still our best offensive lineup, the rotation would eradicate the problem of who is no.10 cos all of them would switch positions. Anyopposition can deal with only the flanks switching, but three players of this technical calibre rotating will drive any D to madness. Rami-Mike should offer enough defensive protection to unleash mazacar again.

it would break my heart if Mata leaves under these circumstances. he is such an elegant and subtile player. maybe Mou wants to flex his muscles and make a stance who is boss or whatever, but i don`t know how you can say that he has been below par when he only played that little. hopefully he gets his chance and can play in the middle with oscar just as Jose said in the sky interview today.

Oscar is strong and ahead if Mata, true. But why is Jose taking this weird road again after the Joe Cole Scenario. I don`t understand why he isn´t dealing with this quietly behind the scenes.

I can see him going to United as part of Rooney's deal, maybe that's José's plan if Mata want to take part to the WC, he will have to play... elsewhere.

He's been our (only) star player in the Premier-fucking-league and for one of europes elite clubs, YET.. still couldn't break into the spanish side. Him starting again won't change anything for him on an international level.

For me, this isn't an oscar vs mata deal. Oscar has proven he is an all around wonderful footballer. But mata has shown that he can CONSISTENTLY provide stats for chelsea. Hazard hasn't. Schurrle hasn't. Torres and eto'o haven't. You can talk about his defensive ability, but we all know that he is so lethal in attack that he makes up for it numbers-wise. Not to mention that even with this more athletic squad Mourinho wants to field, we haven't exactly been a model defensive team. All I can hope is that mata shows how useful he is every chance he gets.

Jose is a having a laugh, he knows no matter how brilliant Juan looks vs Swindon, nothing changes. It's Swindon! Not United. Oscar is great and will only get better but this is plain fucking insulting. It's like Lampard being left out of the squad for Van Ginkel. Fans say it's early days and there's plenty of matches all season, true, but Mata isn't a Jose Mourinho type winger. Maybe an AVB type winger, but he can't cope with pressing and tracking back, it's futile at this point. Mata was kept this season by Jose as experienced cover and Capitol One Cup games. Pretty much what Essien is around for.

Words are cheap, especially from Jose, we have seen it for years.

Is he trying to play Mata differently ? Can Mata adapt to this new role ? Players are good at some position, but shitty at others.

Today, I read Mata & Luiz can play against Swindon.

Is this the way to reward your best player for two years running ?

As soon as United rejected the chance to get Mata as 'part exchange' for the Rooney deal, the club saved his (and their) blushes by covering it up. Going on to claim no player was ever actually offered.

This wouldn't surprise me, no smoke without fire etc..

Jose says he wants to play him on the wing, so it's still early to judge how much his involvement with the team will be. But if he can't adapt like Jose wants then it would be best for him and the club to part ways.

Nonsense, absolute nonsense. Oscar is the Brazil #10 and one of the best young players in world football. It's nothing like Lampard being dropped for MVG.

"Mata can't cope with pressing and tracking back..."

That means Mata can't play top level football. Everybody in the team is being asked to press and put opponents under pressure. There can not and should not be any exceptions. Even Messi presses opponents and he scores 60 a season. Why should Mata be given a free ride?

A Mourinho team doesn't do luxury players. I'd advise you to get to grips with that fact sooner rather than later, things will be much easier for you if you do.
