β€˜It hasn’t worked out for him’ – Alan Shearer not convinced Thomas Tuchel wanted Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea

https://metro.co.uk/2022/03/19/alan-shearer-not-convinced-thomas-tuchel-wanted-romelu-lukaku-at-Chelsea-16307002/

Alan Shearer does not believeΒ Thomas TuchelΒ wanted to signΒ Romelu LukakuΒ forΒ Chelsea, believing the Belgian does not work hard enough to suit the manager’s style.

Lukaku completed his return to Stamford Bridge for Β£97million during the summer transfer window with many backing him to spearhead a Premier League title charge for the Blues.

The formerΒ Manchester UnitedΒ star has failed to consistently impress however having scored just five league goals – disciplined by the club in December after a controversial interview where he suggested he wants to return to Inter Milan.

Tuchel has increasingly turned to Kai Havertz to lead his attack over Lukaku with Premier League legend Shearer unsure if the latter fits what the manager demands from his players.

β€˜They spent an awful lot of money for him. I thought he was going to be a game changer for Chelsea this season,’ Shearer told BBC Sport ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Middlesbrough.

β€˜It hasn’t worked out for him, five league goals, 12 league starts. I just think at times the system that Chelsea play is not suited to him.

β€˜We saw his devastating form at Inter but of course he was up alongside [Lautaro] Martinez there and that sorted of suited him better. He is not the type of guy who wants to press and work hard.’

Lukaku was Chelsea’s only major permanent signing last summer with Saul Niguez also arriving on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid.

Pushed on whether the decision to bring Lukaku back to west London, Shearer is not convinced the Belgium international was Tuchel’s first choice.

β€˜I get the impression that he wasn’t a player that the manager perhaps wanted,’ Shearer said.

PSG add Lukaku to summer wishlist (Football Insider)
Belgian striker touted for Ligue 1 switch

Paris Saint-Germain have added Romelu Lukaku to their summer transfer window wishlist - according toΒ Football Insider.

The Blues' Β£98 million record signing is unhappy at Stamford Bridge after falling out with Thomas Tuchel earlier in the season.

PSG could tempt him with an offer to join them at the end of the campaign as they seek extra attacking numbers amid reports that Kylian Mbappe is set to link up with Real Madrid.

I want to believe.

Sadly I think Messi and Neymar have enough power to veto this.

Our big hope is Simeone (again).

Pessi is a massive PSG flop and VERY likely next season is his last there.

His blocking of players on the Argie National Team is why itΒ took him until the tail end of his carrier (and the weakest Copa America field since the 1970's) to finally win an international trophy.

Neymar is so so often injured and he is ageing too.

Β

TheyΒ are losing Mbappe.

They obviously don't rate Icardi.

Benz and Lewa are not going to PSG in this comingΒ summer.

Nor is HΓ₯land or DuΕ‘an VlahoviΔ‡.

Β  Β
Cristiano Ronaldo? IΒ cannot see that, and are his legs up to CF on an 'attempting to win theΒ CL' team? Nope.
Β

that leaves (big boy rep CF's) only a handful

Β
Harry KaneΒ
Romelu LukakuΒ Β
Lautaro MartΓnezΒ Β
Victor OsimhenΒ

Β

The only other one they can swoop in and fairly easily buy (via brute cash power) is Osimhen (which I would do, tbh)

If Spurs sell Kane this summer you think they might want Lukaku?

Β

Can't see Rom joining another PL-team, even for Conte. Even if Spurs reach PL, he has nothing to achieve there. If Lukaku leaves- which I don't believe he will - he'd return to Inter or go PSG.

A straight swap with Felix would do,Β Simeone has destroyed his career with his tactics.

Not for me. We should do what we should have done last summer and fully commit to Kai as a striker.

Getting the right inside forwards around him should be the biggest priority.

Agree, commit to Havertz and bring Broja back as the alternative, i.e. a more natural striker but someone more mobile and willing to press from the front, whilst also being younger and a lower profile to be a backup for now.

If Chelsea really want to back Tuchel, I would take the risk on Dembele for him. His injury history is a big asterisk but when he's fit he is a genuine game changing talent and on a free would help to mitigate those risks. Back in the day I always used to think would I rather 25-30 games a season of Robben or 50-60 games of Kalou. And the same applies here - would I prefer 25-30 games of Dembele or 50-60 games of Werner?

For me, Werner and Lukaku probably represent the two most obvious options to be moved on and probably would generate for the club the most money of those deemed dispensable, albeit maybe at a loss on what we bought them for originally. Potentially bringing back Broja and Gallagher and buying Dembele on a free would offer quite a refresh of options within the squad whilst also keeping funds available to help strengthen other areas of the squad which may need it.

Never forget the famous words -

'People always would talk about Kane, Lewandowski, Benzema, and say it was world-class level, with me it was always 'good form'.

'In the last two years I've shown that it's not just good form, I belong with that group.'
