If there wasnt such love from Mou to Rooney (and possibly vice-versa), I wouldnt believe any rumour, but in this case, something might actualy happen.

I would love him now, but there is little chance he would come in summer, not to say in January. He is best ManU player atm and they probably wouldnt sell him even for 50m, cuz if they do, they are soo fucked and wont see europe next season for sure. I cant count how many players rejected move publicly in last two seasons, its laughable (Cesc, Modric, Koke, De Rossi, Herrera, Reus,...)

Rooney will sell shirts. He's incredibly marketable.

Selling shirts is nice but big players equaling loads of cash is a bit silly, WAGNH did a good piece on it once.

Yes but Rooney's contract runs out at the end of the 2014-15 season I think and since he is over a certain age it means he can buy out the last year of his contract and move (or at least I think) so I think we will get him if he doesn't sign a new deal as United won't want to lose him for free so they will probably have to accept something in the range of 20m to 30m for a 28 or 29 year old player (depending when it is) with one year left on his deal.

Im not sure but isnt that when player has just half year on contract and over 23 years old? And he can negotiate with new club without permission of the current club. Same as Lewa and Bayern. He signed contract half year before his current one expires.

Still, I think he wont move before summer. If he will move anyway...would be awesome to see announcement on cfc page on 1st february that we signed him though :)

Rooney, Matic, Zouma, good LB and Lukaku back for next season and we are ready for quite some time.

£20m in the summer and £300k per week, he WILL JOIN US. Partly because he is an idiot who can't learn a new language so he won't live England, the chance of joining City is 0 considering their attacking options, that leaves us as his only option.

Yeah Rooneys an idiot..... who earns 300k a week and is more intelligent with a ball than the average human being. What an idiot.

Listen, we both know that if he REALLY wanted to leave he would have left already. He is obviously playing games and not being serious.

what if United don't improve much this season

I would NOT pay that to a 28 year old... That's the type of money you'd offer to a young superstar that'll be a free agent (ala Lewandowski).

why not. if we can get rid of all 3 of ba (80k), etoo (150k) and torres (210k) [overall 440k] and replace them with rooney (300k) and lukaku definitely less than 140k, then i dont see any problem with it.

United will not sell to us, at best we will get him on a bosman in 2015.

Them selling their star player will send out a significant statement of inferiority on their behalf, and they just won't let it happen.

Saving £400k a week isn't an excuse to give one player £300k! That's Messi/Ronaldo money which is just ridiculous for a 28yr old Wayne bloody Rooney!

And how do u define messi/cr money??? What is ridiculous is essien getting 100k. Rooney getting 300k is not ridiculous if he can make us into a Pl and CL winning team, which he will

I wouldn't be so sure. The financial benefits of selling him now for a price way over the odds (which it would be) might outweigh the hit to their 'prestige', especially if they look like they're going to fail to make the CL. At the end of the day Rooney is an asset on a balance sheet who is losing value by the day.

There is financial benefit's, but United are such a big club (some would say stubborn), that they won't want the physiological shift it will bring. The Torres transfer (despite being a disaster) signaled something similar.

I have just have a feeling United will take the Dortmund approach to this, to the point they will offer him abroad for a bargain price.

Can't imagine Rooney playing outside of England.

I actually do think he's attainable if we were to offer the right amount. An amount that they'd just want to be rid of the headache. Mata + cash actually isn't looking so bad now.

I actually laughed out loud during this past summer when United fans suggested that Rooney was worth far more than Mata and that a direct swap would be really lopsided in our favor, but seeing as to how we're managing to look good without Mata and Rooney has been in terrific form I think cash + Mata could be a fair deal.

Think we'd win the league fairly easily with Rooney leading the line. City and ourselves would end the season with a pretty significant gap over the 3 place team.
