I would love him now, but there is little chance he would come in summer, not to say in January. Yes but Rooney's contract runs out at the end of the 2014-15 season I think and since he is over a certain age it means he can buy out the last year of his contract and move (or at least I think) so I think we will get him if he doesn't sign a new deal as United won't want to lose him for free so they will probably have to accept something in the range of 20m to 30m for a 28 or 29 year old player (depending when it is) with one year left on his deal.

Im not sure but isnt that when player has just half year on contract and over 23 years old? And he can negotiate with new club without permission of the current club. Same as Lewa and Bayern. He signed contract half year before his current one expires.

I would NOT pay that to a 28 year old... That's the type of money you'd offer to a young superstar that'll be a free agent (ala Lewandowski).

why not. if we can get rid of all 3 of ba (80k), etoo (150k) and torres (210k) [overall 440k] and replace them with rooney (300k) and lukaku definitely less than 140k, then i dont see any problem with it.

I wouldn't be so sure. The financial benefits of selling him now for a price way over the odds (which it would be) might outweigh the hit to their 'prestige', especially if they look like they're going to fail to make the CL. At the end of the day Rooney is an asset on a balance sheet who is losing value by the day.

There is financial benefit's, but United are such a big club (some would say stubborn), that they won't want the physiological shift it will bring. The Torres transfer (despite being a disaster) signaled something similar.

I have just have a feeling United will take the Dortmund approach to this, to the point they will offer him abroad for a bargain price.

I actually do think he's attainable if we were to offer the right amount. An amount that they'd just want to be rid of the headache. Mata + cash actually isn't looking so bad now.

I am sorry but I don't believe that cash+Mata for Rooney is a fair deal. Most of us are undervaluing Mata because he hasn't been exceptional under Jose's system this season but the past seasons have shown that Mata is one of the most lethal attacking players and would fit into any team where the defensive duties aren't heavily demanded.

We just can not offer Mata to United also,he'd make them really strong and would be a great asset for them. Rooney is a fantastic player and would be a great addition but can't be desperate enough to offer cash + one of the best players in football today for him.

If we sell Mata it has to be somewhere outside the premier league and if cash doesn't convince United to sell Rooney then the matter should end and we'll look for other alternatives.

One thing is clear though,Rooney will make the effort to sign for us this time if United don't qualify for Champions league football(which is a possibility). If that does happen then 30m is more than enough for the 28 year old striker.

The thing is he is already on £250k per week, so the only way is at least the same or up, he will never reduces it. It does not matter that Paulo Ferreira is on like £50k without having kicked a ball for us in like 2 years now? Or Hilario and so on. If you sell Torres and Eto'o that would be a lot more than £300k taken off the ages bill already, not to mention all those fringe players.
