Al Thani loses the plot over corruption

President complains about TV rights distribution

The president of Málaga FC, Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani, has hit out at the distribution of television rights amongst the clubs in the Spanish league.

Al Thani tweeted on Sunday to demand changes be introduced to make "right and equal all teams TV [sic] rights," alleging that the current system is dominated by "corruption and bribes by some clubs" (without mentioning any names).

Asking how it was possible that a second division club could earn more from television rights than one in the top flight, Al Thani pointed to a gulf of some €75 million in TV revenue between the big two of Real Madrid and Barcelona and the team that finishes third in La Liga.

To change this situation he appealed to "the free media that are non-politicized by big clubs." This current state of affairs, he claimed, would prevent teams like his from developing.

The Qatari said "also another disaster is that clubs that evade taxes in their own way, you know them well" and forecast that "suddenly" consequences like bankruptcy could emerge if the issue is not dealt with. "[it will be] very dangerous and detrimental to the reputation of the Spanish league," Al Thani warned.

Finally, the Sheikh concluded that "I hope my message is clear for all," stating that he is waiting for "the media and free press, the honourable and the Spanish Federation to respond to these things."

Really hope they change it. Will provide much more competition for the title rather having just Madrid and Barca challenging for the title every season.

And this...

Eóin - Valencia News@XimoVCF

Every time Madrid and VCF have faced each other on opening day, one of them won the league. Madrid, 5 times. VCF, twice. (@pedritonumeros)

As long as the Barca shit heads don't win the league I don't care tbh. Would love to see Jose do it I suppose as he is a great manager but I can see Barca getting a hand in the El Classico games as per usual.

I don't care about neither one, and hope neither one wins!!!!!

But that will not happen in a long time, and which is why La Liga is not as interesting as PL....or even Bundesliga for that fact!

Would even throw in Ligue 1. At least they have different league winners in recent years after the Lyon's dominance - Marseille, Lille & Montpellier.

Anyone read/heard that Ronaldo will not renew his contract. Al Jazeera is running the story today and they usually never write BS. His contract is for 2015, but still would be interesting to see if his agent is trying to get him a better deal or if he genuinely wants to leave Madrid.

Really? Never see any furore on Twitter regarding that.
