Josh McEachran

Whether Josh is a gem or not is not the question. The question is, does he has the tools to make it to the top level ?

It is clear as day light that Josh is special. His passing ability and his vision just show how talented he is. But being technically talented is not enough to make it a the biggest stage. Kakuta is also technically special. But until now he couldn't make his way to the top — and I don't think he will. He lacks other things than purely football abilities. He lacks things such as confidence, will, determination (and maybe professionalism).

I mean, how many gems such as Gaël didn't make it, while having special technical abilities, and while being typed as real talents ? He is not the only one, there are plenty of them.

And, why do you think that the Premier League (for instance, the same goes for the other leagues) is full of dirty players who are technically poor — while young talents get lost ? Because, as I said, it takes other things than purely football abilities.

At the moment, Josh has the technique but doesn't have the mental. Look at Chalobah. He holds himself pretty good on the pitch. He doesn't fear to get stuck in other players, he takes initiatives. We can feel that he wants it. You just see that he takes the bull by the hornes. On the other hand, Josh seems to lack passion, motivation. To caricature, he is just jogging on the pitch.

In that regards, I do not believe he will make it at the highest level. I do not believe he has the mental to do so.

Edited by Peace.

I think that has a lot to do with his personality. He seems a bit shy and laid back. There are lots of players like that who are technically good but lack other intangibles.

That ^^^ article was actually written because somebody posted THIS THREAD on their site and linked them to page 66.

In yesterday's loan roundup, there was an interesting comment asking my thoughts on Josh McEachran
and his development. The comment directed us to a forum discussing his play at Middlesbrough, and I was just amazed at some of the laughable comment I was reading. There were some questioning his attitude, effort,
and work ethic, and all I could do was shake my head in amazement at their ridiculousness.

So go on own up, who did it? :clown:

I just want to point out that just because whoever wrote that piece on Josh is apparently a 'credible' writer who wants to be a journalist and because he has fancier words and better constructed sentences than most on here including myself, that does not mean he is 'correct'.

He states that what he read on here was laughable; as-if what posters such as myself have been saying is wrong - yet how can an opinion; which he's based his entire article on - then be right?

Football is and always has been a game of opinions. WAGNH is a great good site, but not everything on there is fact like so many seem to take their stuff for.

Of course, tt's just a blog, I have never taken their opinions as fact or hold them in high regard because they have their own site. They post some interesting stuff from time to time but it's just a blog at the end of the day.

And I know their name is tongue in cheek but it's still shit.

I had my reservations against him being loaned out to a championship side before this season began. And my opinion hasn't changed.

I feel he's a player who thrives on attacking runs made by intelligent players around him. Which is why I feel his best performances have come when he played with the first 11 at Chelsea.

Once again, dropped to the bench. No excuses. No 'he's tired', no 'they're resting him for a bigger game'. He simply doesn't show that determination the players have been showing around him to push for a promotion spot.

He's just come back from illness hasn't he?

Not too sure, but I believe he's only started 2 of Middlesbrough's last 7 or 8 games; all but 1 of which he started on the bench (the illness); this after starting so many games at the start of the season.

Well Chalobah is on the bench today as well and has missed quite a few games for Watford. Shall we disown him as well?

The proper way to deal with young players in your squad is to give them rest more than older players because over-working them affects their development and consequently their whole career.

He's 20 years old and only started 2 games in around 7 weeks or so. At 20 years old he should be bursting with energy and have great fitness. You don't rest a 20 year old for 5 weeks in football! Chalobah has been starting almost every single Watford game this season however, and actually merits a rest.

That is not the whole picture. The way I remember it, Josh had a slight hamstring problem, he returned to the starting XI then was benched for two match (he played the whole second 45 mins in the second) then he returned to the starting line up where he had a fantastic game in a 1-0 win against league leaders, Cardif, then he missed 2 games for illness and today he's back on the bench.

you seem to have some problem with our youth players... i remember reading some of your ridiculously hilarious comments on lukaku at the start of the season and look how that panned out. as for josh, u dont have to be a genius to figure out that he has stamina related problems but as far as his performances are concerned, u r way too harsh on him.
