What will everyone's expectations be next season then?

For me it almost solely depends on who we appoint and how they manage the job. For example, under Pochettino or a manager of that ilk I would consider top 4 a good result IF it coincides with the implementing of a sustainable looking system and the young players we have looking well developed and coached. 

However if we appoint a win now f**k everything after coach like Mou, Alegri or Conte I will expect the title and no excuses.

Expectations should be top 4

When you look at the following teams all have cash coming from the owners above what the club makes and player sales depending on their FFP situation

Man City

Aston Villa

Newcastle

Arsenal

most likely Man United

Top 4 is going to be harder than years past. We better get a clear vision and a system that is clear to the players fast. We start bumbling through next year and top 4 will be over quickly.

I have absolutely no idea who I want as manager, those I was expecting have cried off... don't blame them though.

If it turns out to be Poch then I will support him, not barrack him.

'cos with Enrique and Nagelsmann out of the equation there's no one else.

I think especially considering we won't be in Europe at all next season, top 4 should be the minimum aim and a real strong effort in the domestic cups. We can go stronger throughout the league cup campaign for example - would be an ideal trophy to target mid season.

I don't know, in fact I'm questioning if I really care at this point. This season has been another absolute shit show again, and I cannot see it getting any better anytime soon.

Poch, Kompany etc etc it doesn't really matter, they will arrive and it will be rinse and repeat again with another 1 or 2 year cycle.

No Europe next season so no excuses, trim the squad massively, shift the dead wood and heavy wage collectors, if we have to take a loss then so be it, we cannot carry passengers and if that means Mount has to be sold then so be it. Simply put we need players who want to be here, want to fight for the badge and rocket the club back to where we should be.

Letting the manager manage and choose his own players is the first starting point. Let him control and steer the ship, keep your fucking nose out of the football side.

I would just like to be able to switch the game on sit back beer in hand, and enjoy watching my team play again, also be nice to come on here and see positive posts and discussions again, and actually looking forward to the game rather than my weekend ruined every week for an entire year.

You expect the title with no excuses??? I take it, you are basing your optimism on us having got a striker and GK in the summer transfer window? Without them, there is no way we are winning anything.

If we appoint a win now manager who will give less than zero shits about even the medium term or building something more sustainable then it absolutely has to come with hard results, even more so if Lukaku gets brought back into the fold.

Is there any chance of that happening, though?

Everything points to a yes-man coming in without any real success behind them.

Agreed.

If we are going to sacrifice style of play, and long term development for a results-based, guns-blazing manager like Mourinho, then we should get a title challenging team.

But, if we're getting a manager that is genuinely going to improve the squad, and style of play for the next few years, competing for top 4 should suffice.

It's an easy and understandable stick to beat the ownership with at present that they want a 'yes' man. In fairness though, what are the other options?

We've been there with the likes of Conte and Jose and although it's great at the time, they consistently leave a club in a worse position needing to be built back up again.

When we're looking at what were the original fancied names for this post, all have some form of question marks hanging over them. Luis Enrique will always have the "can he win without that Barca team" thrown at him until he proves he can, and Poch and Nagelsmann's successes I would argue are pretty comparable. 

I've said a few times over the months and years I wouldn't want Poch here, but I have warmed to the idea in the here and now to feel he's the right fit and I do think in the current situation he's probably the safest and most sensible option we could opt for, which hopefully will bode well for this ownership to start taking a more mindful and measured approach to their decision making moving forward.

For the team to care again and for the owners to be humble, not try to mould everything in their vision - let the experts they have hired do their job.
