Pizy 18,985
Definitely don't think Soumaré is shit. Far from it, actually. I think he's a top talent who has an excellent all around game. I was impressed with him when we played Lille last season. If Frank is 100% determined to sign a midfielder this window and Rice is totally impossible, Soumaré would be a good fallback option. But I don't think the position is in desperate need of a player there currently. We'll wait for Rice until next year if need be rather than signing someone just to sign them. If the club had hurried the striker signing in January we'd have ended up with some second rate option instead of Werner and this is a similar situation. If the primary target is not yet available but could be next year, it's better to not spend the money now and wait instead. Of course if Jorginho can be sold now the club should go all out and try again for Rice but if Jorgi stays I can't see it happening. Kante, Jorginho, Rice and Gilmour would be overkill. I really dont know with Soumare. Honestly he just reminds me of Bakayoko in terms of he has had only the one decent season and I was wary of Bakayoko when were linked despite the opinion he was the second coming of Yaya Toure, for this exact same reason.... Agree we could end up with Cavani, Mertens, or Dembele.

Got to admit I wanted a new striker signed too, mainly because I didn't believe for a second Werner was a realistic summer signing and someone like Dembele would've improved chances of CL qualification. But in the end things played out perfectly when CL was achieved with Tammy/Giroud anyway and Werner became available after all. Maybe this time the club got a bit lucky because the pandemic meant Liverpool dropping out of the race for Werner which nobody could have foreseen in the winter but generally it's always better to wait for the primary targets than settle for a fallback option. We've seen the problem with the likes of Zappacosta etc. that signing someone just for the sake of it rarely works and I don't think Lampard was ever that keen on Dembele. The only signing that would have been beneficial for the long term was signing Dembele from Lyon but would have cost a fortune. The others - e.g. Mertens, Cavani - would have been short term signings and the kind of signings that got us into the mess that we were in to begin with. petre.ispirescu

Difference is Soumaré is miles and miles more comfortable on the ball than Bakayoko is. Alabama

coolhead23 1,147
I hoped that we conclude our goalkeeper a week before our first game so that he hopefully gets to start. But looks like it will be the same defensive setup in terms of players for the first match (Not sure if Thiago starts) Muzchap

Ryan Fong 2,776
Mendy will be ours that’s for sure now. It’s a bit like Havertz transfer saga, just the matter of time not if. Move on to the next and most likely the last one, Declan Rice, is he really worth the big chunk of money? Personally I’m torn, great addition to the squad no doubt due to his versatility but for over 50m? I don’t know. Can anyone who’s watched him regularly shade some lights? Pizy 18,985
Hopefully this dude has a big, alpha dog personality and can handle intense pressure. Because he's probably going to our most scrutinized new player considering all the drama around Kepa.

Very strong, aggressive defensively (attacks the ball carrier) and great at tackling with both feet (prefers standing tackles). Not an amazing passer aka Fabregas, but more than decent and can certainly pick a pass. Also has great positional awareness from what i've seen. The fact that he's a natural leader and a Chelsea fan is also a huge bonus Fernando, oldportblue and Ryan Fong
