Btw, what the hell happened to Anselmino?

Strasbourg is an obvious option for £15.6m defender who continues to train alone

It’s not that Delap is a bad signing. He would be SUPER useful to have and he causes massive headaches for opposing teams. But it’s whether he’s capable of taking us all the way back to the top level.

If it was Delap + another reliable goal scorer fine.

Just what I was thinking. His profile being too close to the names circulating is the only issue. My concern with his signing is that it wouldn't really offer much to have him next to someone like Osimhen. I could support a signing like Samu's a year ago (theoretically, Delap having already completed a Premier League season). We can't be going into a CL campaign with Jackson, Guiu, and Delap as our alternatives if we have any real ambition of being competitive.

Yeah, at least not against the very top teams. Delap isn’t striking fear in any of the big boys entering a match.

Perhaps the club would take advantage of Delap being dirt cheap compares to the others were linked with and use the money saved to go all out for a top wide attacker to replace Madueke/Sancho.

So while Delap alone wouldn’t be so exciting, maybe we get a Nico Williams or Rodrygo to refresh the attack?

Super useful? How exactly?

If he hadn’t had that game against us in December, I doubt their would be a clamouring on here to sign him. It’s like the Torres, Benayoun, Meireles effect all over again. Reports saying long standing interest also are very strange - why didn’t we try signing him from City then? Like Palmer and the fullback kid O’Reily…. cause its nonsense! We’ve needed a CF for years and he’d of been cheaper than Nico also, so yeah not buying long standing interest reports at all.

His last 2 PL goals were the beginning of April v Wolves on the 5th of April & Bournemouth on the 2nd of April. Before those he hadn’t scored since goals v Villa on the 15th of Feb and Southampton on the 1st of Feb. Prior to those, his last goals were against Fulham on the 5th Jan and us on the 30th December.

If his playing style isn’t particularly suited to a heavy possession based team - lets be honest its not at all - and his goal return isn’t consistent then how would he be “super useful”?

I am yet to see one thing that indicates he would be an improvement on what we already have (and that says something cause Jackson is beyond average).

The whole point of signing a CF is to have someone who can do the business to limit us relying on a Jackson/Delap/Guiu. Throwing in another kid who isn’t ready to lead the line for an aspiring CL level/title winning club is just pointless. May as well sign another project CB and project GK whilst we are it. You said it yourself in another post he isn’t striking fear into any of the big boys - thats the sort of player we need.

That's what we can hope for. Reason I was/am so against the Ekiteke signing for more than double the price. However, trying to save some pennies where it matters most on the pitch isn't a smart decision.

He's going to be at the CWC, so he'll get a closer look of him against better opposition.

Ekitike is not worth more than double compared to Delap.

I’d argue Delap is the more effective and impactful player right now anyway.

Shitting on a player who banged in 12 goals on a shitty, shitty Ipswich team is bizarre. Ekitike is playing on a well oiled offensive team and has 3 more goals… in a way worse league.

This could be said for a lot of players before a move. Did anyone fear Salah when he went to Liverpool, Kane after his loan at Norwich?

Personally, I am fine with Delap, I think he has something but time will tell. However, I perfer him than putting a personality like VO into the dressing room or spending stupid wages and fees on a Bundesliga CF. Gyokeres and Alverez are the only two that are better options - although I have doubts about Gyokeres' ability to translate his form to the PL.

Also, he has shown he can handle the physicality of the league and also be able to move PL CB's about.

I do get where people are coming from, but equally at £30m this is a no brainer deal. Especially as it is avoiding the typical English tax and we have some evidence he can play in the PL at 21.
