bluesman2610 1,423
I feel like he’ll give us a better starting platform to play well. I don’t despise this deal because if he’s around for next 2-3 years so we can give Slonina time to properly develop it’s a good deal. Poch has already said Gaga can be a world beater someday so high hopes for the lad. Edited August 3, 2023 by bluesman2610

NikkiCFC 8,369
There's never been world class player from Ecuador. So history and math is not on Caicedo side. What are the odds he is the first one? Valencia is most famous but nothing special. For 100m we should expect prime Kante from day one. Just saying Caicedo is not sure thing like we would like to believe. And this is me, who said back in December that my dream MF is Enzo and Caicedo. Fernando and enzoforever

Top 4 being a walk? If we sign him, I don't see why we can't, at the very least, pose a threat for the title. The lack of a WC CF is why I certainly wouldn't give us a chance of upsetting the odds. 2 hours ago, Vegetable said: So we are paying roughly the same for Brighton's 3rd gk as Arsenal did for Ramsdale, supposedly grossly overpaying? That's some very weird relationship we have with them. Oh wait, Mendy was 24 million Euro too, geez. Just look at the rumoured fee for Raya. There's little value around nowadays. Tomo 21,751
A little bit of context for the "he's Brighton's 3rd choice keeper" narrative from the Brighton forum. Steele did get injured, and after two months of quiet benchwarming Sanchez was picked and played two of the biggest games in our history, our first win at Stamford Bridge followed by the Cup semi final at Wembley. He excelled in both, a chance to re-establish himself you might say, but was dropped back to the bench immediately after. Then Steeke shipped five against Everton and was. looking anything but a PL shot stopper, but RDZ told Sanchez he wasn't getting back in the team, at which point he got upset and the rest is history. https://www.northstandchat.com/threads/robert-sanchez-to-Chelsea-for-25m-plus-add-ons.400643/page-

They'll always be a bit of natural paranoia after the last couple of season's but instincts are telling me it was a precaution due to the pitch. Hopefully I'm right. Mário César 1,327
everything will depend on the luck of injuries and how our players with potential will grow throughout the season. For now, the signs are promising. you can tell this is a group that wants to be here and wants to shine. that's halfway to success. if we get caicedo, olise/kudus and vlahovic, we have an obligation to fight for the champions league places. another scenario is unthinkable. Haaland by that metric shouldn't have been a buy coming out of Bundesliga - but he looked like a sure thing. I don't think Caceido is worth 100 mil. He isn't Kante, nor will he be IMO. I'm a diminishing returns kind of person, so I see someone who we could get for 40 mil and perform at 80% - and think that is better than 100 mil and only getting 20% more. Because you can use that 60 mil to bolster elsewhere. That on top of him not necessarily being a sure fire thing really. Yes, they really wanted to be here as they signed their best contracts yet. For some, this will be their first and only stint at an elite club. "that's halfway to success." No, it really isn't. It's far easier to find will and determination than quality in football. The PL itself should be evidence enough. A lot of the smaller teams show the biggest heart and dedication you see in the league, and yet that does not help them into top6. What allows you to win when competing against the best there is, is to have players of comparable quality. This season, we simply don't know the level of the newly acquired players; they may not even know themselves. It will be the first big challenge in their careers. I totally understand that the unknown, having a young squad hungry players can be exciting, but I reckon the odds are that not all players will come good. Some will be found out this season, and we will have to quickly replace them. There are many possible scenarios, some pretty bad, but it seems folks are optimistic. So let's see if they can at least hold their own.

I was pretty much obsessed with signing Enzo from the minute I saw him play a 90 minute match, here's me stating as such before he exploded in the world cup. Caicedo not so much at that point but I'm certainly not against it after doing the research. NikkiCFC

Can't quite believe we have actually got him with us. I share your sentiment with Caicedo too... I'm not as desperate to sign him but he is a classy player who I would be very happy if we did manage to pull it off. Tomo

I d rather have a group of young players with ambition potential and hunger who give it all for the shirt than watching some average has beens who fk off for a few extra quid after producing next to nothing for years. I'd say that the CL team was loaded with will and determination. Timo "ran like a dog" and Mount was relentless applying pressure. It was nice to see. Kai was the one a bit more on a free role, but still wasn't the lazy player he's been in the last couple of seasons. We had Kante too! Rudiger had tons of energy esp making runs. Tactical knowledge is quality too... do these player have it already? Honestly, I even expect some of these players to drop form at some point during the season... it's normal. We will see very soon, but I sincerely do not see enough quality in the squad to warrant such optimism. Won't be complaining one bit for being wrong here, but that's what I see.
