How many young midfielders do we need. There is no clear pathway for any of em anymore

Tbf, this kid at least is a completely different profile than any of the other youngsters we’ve bought.

This was Emenalo/Marina masterclass. Still the worst transfer window ever:

We got our money back for Morata tho.

5x profit for Ampadu.

Rudiger and Giroud amazing buys.

Emerson and Zappacosta just backups, still sold for solid money, did not do any damage here.

Barkley had his moments and was cheep but overall did not accomplish anything here.

Drinky and Bakayoko absolutely horrendous buys.

So yeah, overall of 9 players just 2 left some mark here.

Youth players are defined under FFP rules by the age, not if they are academy or first team players. The money spent on players defined as youth players does not count toward FFP. When they are sold for profit, it counts positively toward a club’s FFP calculation.

The owners have said there is a separate budget for youth players. Buying all these 2004 born players is like printing free FFP credit for the future with no FFP counting against us. As soon as this is seen as Chelsea exploiting a loop hole, it will be screamed about in the press and they will start counting it when buying the kids.

Well, he seems like a poor man's Onana to me based on the eye test and looking at the stats, and especially seems strange to me because when I look at our other signings they are always freakishly good in certain stats areas, showing some kind of clear approach to our data-led recruitment methodology, but when you look at Ugochukwu he doesn't excel at anything aside from perhaps aerial duels (almost 70% win rate). Feels like a pretty old fashioned case of some scout(s) simply liking him and feeling he has potential? Weird thing is he is not THAT cheap, so not clear there is any real upside to him in the future unless he undergoes a big transformation. Does have age on his side ofc.

What I will say is that he does tick a lot of what I was talking about the other day in terms of being at least a basic option to partner Enzo who counteracts all of Enzo's weaknesses - tall, powerful, defensive responsibilities covered, dominant in the air - totally frees up Enzo, which is worth its weight in gold.

When we bought Strasbourg I figured the plan was to uncover inexpensive gems and develop them there with an eye to turn those inexpensive gems into Chelsea players, thus saving us money. I did NOT expect us to spend £20m+ sums for loan players. That’s the kind of money that small PL teams spend for their marquee signings!

Someone already mentioned on this thread - we can't have Strasbourg signing and then sell to us later for cheap. UEFA would flag such deals. They've already looked into the Saint Maximin deal to Saudi to see if figures were conflated.
