Spanish publication MARCA now claim that Barca felt ‘attacked’ by Chelsea due to the West Londoners’ financial muscle. The Blues cannot quite spend as heavily as they did under former owner Roman Abramovich, but new owner Todd Boehly has proved that he will make big transfer warchests available to Thomas Tuchel.

fucking cunts🤬

They’re probably also pissed off at us (and all English clubs) for blowing up the Super League which was going to save them from financial ruin.

can anyone put the full article?

Jules Kounde is set to become Chelsea’s third summer signing in a deal that could allow captain Cesar Azpilicueta to join Barcelona.

Chelsea look to have beaten off competition from Barca for Kounde. They have agreed to pay Sevilla in the region of £55 million and have offered the defender a five-year contract.

Having signed Raheem Sterling in a deal worth £50m and Kalidou Koulibaly for £34m, Chelsea’s new owners have now already committed £139m to new signings since taking over the club with more deals to follow.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta appeared to concede defeat in the race to sign Kounde by telling a supporter in Las Vegas that the 23-year-old will move to Chelsea.

The signing of Kounde will bring to an end a year-long pursuit of the player for Chelsea, who almost signed him last summer before Sevilla moved the goalposts on the transfer fee.

Kounde had appeared to have slipped down the pecking order of Chelsea targets this year until Matthijs de Ligt preferred a move to Bayern Munich and Nathan Ake decided to stay at Manchester City.

The arrival of Kounde will further strengthen the defensive options of head coach Thomas Tuchel, who has already signed Koulibaly from Napoli this summer.

Koulibaly is in line to make his first Chelsea appearance in the club’s final game of their US tour against Arsenal in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Kounde can play on the right of a back three or at right wing-back, which will give Tuchel the option of also swapping Reece James between those two positions.

Tuchel is still ideally hoping to sign a third defender this summer, with Paris St-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe a target, and Kounde’s move could give Azpilicueta the green light to return to Spain with Barcelona.

Azpilicueta is keen to leave Chelsea this summer, with Barca willing to give him a two-year contract.

Tuchel and Chelsea had told the 32-year-old that he must wait to find out if the club could land their targets before making a firm decision on his future.

Azpilicueta did not feature in Chelsea’s last friendly against Charlotte FC, despite making the trip to the US, and has not spoken on his future during the club’s tour.

Other than trying to add another defender to his squad, Tuchel will reassess his forward options after missing out to Barcelona on Raphinha.

The victim mentality is thick on this one...

Lets be honest Barca is one of the biggest clubs in the world, a level we have not reached yet. They make so much more in revenue than we do and they also are a bigger brand than we are, thus giving them a better chance at generating even more money using their brand. It is not our fault nor is it other teams fault they are where they are now financially. That is the responsibility that falls solely on their board. Short term signings and huge wages are part of the problem. So instead of complaining about other teams financial muscle, maybe you should sort yourselves out. You are not some fckin relegation battle team, you are Barcelona its embarrassing!

According to El Chiringuito it looks like Kounde will earn a net salary of €6M per season. Roughly £180K/wk before tax, sounds about right for a player of his status and role in the current market.

It was always so obvious Gerard Romero's claims of €12M net per year were bullshit but the Barca fans took it as gospel. This victim mentality was always ridiculous like how they implied through media it's either to Barcelona for success or to Chelsea for the money. It's not like they haven't signed multiple players just this summer for minimum €6M net deals (Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kessie, Dembele all on equal or more).

I think that is way too much for a player who has done and won fuck all so far and only been playing on this level for 2 years. Would expect him to be on less money otherwise would further complicate our next contract negotiations

This isn't Bale we are signing.

That is more or less the kind of salary I would expect Mount and James to get in their oncoming contract negotiations, maybe I'd give the academy boys a little bit extra to make it an even £200K/wk but in the same ballpark nonetheless.

I don't really see it complicating anything, that ship has already sailed with Havertz, Chilwell on around £200K and Werner on £270K wages. Close to £200K a week or more seems to be the going rate for a starting player at Chelsea nowadays.
