If Jackson is sold, I expect Joao to compete with Delap for the striker position mostly. His skillset allows him to play across the frontline ofc but I don’t see him operating in the half spaces and sometimes dropping deep like Palmer and Enzo do when playing as 10. I much, much prefer Pedro to Felix so it's easy to see him as an upgrade to the Portuguese international. Problem of course is that Felix never had a role in the team so if Pedro is replacing someone who never played what's the point? Well I think there's more to Pedro's game than there is to to Felix's. For example he can perform as a nine, whereas Felix absolutely cannot. There's more physicality: and purpose about Pedro too. If we can now find new clubs for Felix and Nkunku that will be a good rearranging of the deck chairs. Bringing in one player who can, and will, contribute to replace two who couldn't, or at any rate didn't, will be a step in the right direction. Thor 2,831
I'd love Kudus here as well. Think he provides a lot of what Rogers does but at a cut rate price. If he costs half of Rogers, sign him up. Get rid of Noni, Jackson and Mudryk. Felix too. DDA and mkh

Thor 2,831
I honestly think Liverpool has one or two more good/great seasons left in them - if that. They signed the "big names" but I'm not enamoured by their team like some. Their core is getting older and the players that hide a lot of weaknesses are part of that older core. I would have much preferred us to have spent less for Kudus. Gittens is off the City line. It's hard to hate the results thus far. Price seems steep for someone they were actively looking to get rid of, though.

Vesper 31,112
Sources: Chelsea again scouted centre back on their list this week Blues officials were very impressed https://siphillipstalkschelsea.substack.com/p/sources-Chelsea-again-scouted-centre Chelsea once again scouted a centre back who is on their shortlist for this summer this week and made use of an opportunity. As you will know, a new centre back is also on the agenda for Chelsea this summer as well as improving the attack. Chelsea have tried and made approaches and checks on a number of potential new centre back names this summer so far and still have more to look at and in to. But one of them was facing Chelsea overnight on Saturday, and Chelsea very much made use of a chance to watch him play again in the flesh. Chelsea have been scouting Antonio Silva of Benfica all season and already have him added to our transfer shortlist alongside his team mate, Tomas Araujo. But Chelsea are looking for an out and out centre back and attentions have again turned to the 21-year-old Portuguese international who has just two-years remaining on his contract. Araujo has been playing more as a right back this season and that has put Chelsea off a bit. Silva was watched closely again last night by Chelsea officials and scouts, and we have heard that they were left very impressed again by a dominant display from the 6ft 2in centre back. We believe that he will once again be considered this summer as Chelsea weigh up their options and which centre back to go for. Vesper 31,112
If you're overpaying for Jamie Gittens then you 'overpay' for Mike Maignan And no, I don't care about 'resell' https://siphillipstalkschelsea.substack.com/p/if-youre-overpaying-for-jamie-gittens I’m not going to quit this one. Chelsea have been linked with Marc Ter-Stegen and Emi Martinez recently, and despite the latter being played down, there is genuine interest in both players from us. Chelsea want an older goalkeeper in the door ideally because they rate Mike Penders very highly and do not want him to go off on loan for years and potentially fall in love with another club - just like Thibaut Courtois did. So, if you want an older goalkeeper, then you bring Mike Maignan, right? He’s the best available. And no, not one single person will ever convince me that £25m is ‘overpaying’ for Maignan, not when we’re about to drop £55m on 20-year-old Jamie Gittens with ZERO international caps or call-ups to his name yet. I’m not saying that Gittens is a bad signing, far from it - I think he’s a decent signing. But again, nobody can convince me that £55m is not overpaying for him. Fabrizio Romano is reporting a £55m fee, of course we will probably get Chelsea pushing out a cheaper fee, and Dortmund pushing out a more expensive one, but we will know that it is going to be £55m or there about. And that’s an extortionate fee for a player who has had just two full seasons in Bundesliga so far. Players coming from that league to the Premier League have notoriously found it tough. Not all of them, granted, but a lot of them. It’s a whole different ball game. But don’t get me wrong, I rate the player, and he is a winger that Enzo Maresca will love. I think he can become a world beater down the line and eventually IF that happens, nobody will mention his fee. But it’s still overpaying for him at this point in his career, it just is. And that’s fine if they want to overpay because they believe in him and believe he will soon become a full England international and a top player for years to come. But then don’t tell us all how you are not going to have your pants pulled down in negotiations and will walk away from deals, to then do the exact opposite. They overpaid for Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez at the time but that’s working out just fine, so it’s not an issue to overpay. And if you’re overpaying for player, then ‘overpay’ for Maignan, a player with proven quality and experience and a player who instantly improves a position on the pitch that desperately needs improving. A player the club have wanted for three years. It looks like we could end up ‘overpaying’ for Joao Pedro too. So what was all this ‘tough in negotiations’ nonsense we heard? At the end of the day, sometimes you just have to overpay to get the players you want in. And that’s fine, fans will accept that. But show consistency. Some players are worth overpaying for, others not so much. We aren’t just always going to sign our targets on our terms, it’s impossible. I want to just end this by saying that I rate Gittens, I really do. I think he has the ability to be a devastating winger. But again, it’s another young player coming in who has areas of his game he still needs to improve, and is still a raw player. I’m not upset at all that we are buying him though. Vesper 31,112
Sources: Chelsea turn down chance to go for Jhon Duran The striker looks likes he's heading to Turkey https://siphillipstalkschelsea.substack.com/p/sources-Chelsea-turn-down-chance The situation of Jhon Duran is a bit of a strange one. Chelsea came fairly close to signing him last summer but in the end didn’t want to pay the asking price and were also a bit put off with attitude concerns. Duran ended up leaving Villa and heading to Saudi for the season, but his stay there looks set to end already. Negotiations are advancing for Duran to join Turkish side Fenerbahçe from Al Nassr just one season after joining them. Chelsea do still admire Duran as a player, but they have knocked back a chance to try and sign him again this summer, with the 21-year-old’s agent offering him to The Blues. Chelsea politely said no thank you, and sources tell us ‘that ship has sailed’ now. We aren’t sure exactly why, but I’d suspect it will still be down to attitude concerns about the player, because Chelsea are still looking for a new striker, although they want one who can play other positions and not really an out and out striker. We don’t believe Chelsea would change their minds on Duran but of course, anything can happen in this business. But right now, Chelsea have rejected a chance to go for Duran again and the ship has sailed with no signs of it turning around.
