They're still fu*ked financially no way are they buying a €50m+ player. I mean it looks like they will have to sell FDJ to balance the books as they currently stand. They don't need to sell De Jong if their majority of socios voted for economic levers.

Barca have €1.3bn of debt and they're still up against the La Liga cap. That is also before you get to all the deferred payments they need to make to players. For instance, Pique is reportedly owed €80m over the next two seasons; which is why they're starting to brief against him in the press. This is also before we get to the fact that they still haven't registered AC because they don't have the means to do so just yet. If Bart man was still in charge, then sure Barca may have continued the crackhead antics. However, Laporta is much more sensible and will have Barca focus on more sound principals. Yeah, all of their new signing depends on their socios voted in favour for economic levers. If their socios against it, Barca will sacrifice someone like De Jong to register the new players. Superblue 6,372
The Kounde situation does seem a little strange because the assumption is it's nailed on him joining us but from what it appears we haven't even opened negotiations with Sevilla for him so perhaps we're exploring other targets first. As I've mentioned before I don't mind Kounde if we're continuing a back 3 as I think his skillset could see him flourish in a system such as that. Less enthused about him in a back 4. However he's very expensive and there are a lot of potential options on the market for centre backs, so I wouldn't be disappointed if we were indeed looking elsewhere. With Juventus' reported interest in Jorginho and Emerson, I think the De Ligt interest is genuine and one to keep an eye on. Pizy 18,897
City win the title while finishing 20 points ahead of us and work like maniacs early in the window signing player after player even though they already had a fantastic squad. Haaland and Alvarez with Kalvin Phillips and Cucarella soon to follow. Tottenham are close to finishing up their 2nd and 3rd signings. Meanwhile, you have ourselves and United who need the most work of any big clubs and neither have done anything. We’ve been working on Koundé for literally an entire years with nothing to show for it, ffs. And I don’t really think this has anything to do with the new owner. Wtf are Marina and the rest of the negotiators doing?! These aren’t hugely problematic £100m deals or ones for players with 3 years left on their contracts. Sevilla themselves have admitted that Koundé wants to go and that they will sell, Dembele is literally free, someone like Gnabry has 1 year left and has been agitating to leave, Koulibaly can reportedly go for a reasonable price. There are massive, gaping holes in our first XI and we’re moving with zero urgency whilst our direct rivals are. And after looking at the newly released fixtures for next season our start to the year looks extremely tricky. It’s imperative we have a settled and fully prepared team for match day 1 or we could get off the pace immediedtly.

I think the bigger problem for us and United is stripping out the players we don't want at the club. Spurs need more depth anyway and City know that some of their players like Jesus, possibly Sterling will be in demand if they choose to move them on so can be confident with bringing players in first. It's easy enough to just go and splash out £150m on new signings but what happens if we can't move players on and we're stuck with them. I think the Lukaku transfer is a big one for the club. Getting clarity on our position with him, especially with his wages will I think help to make moves then in our attack. With Chelsea, very little information gets out. We're linked with anyone and everyone but ultimately if we're interested or negotiating with a player it rarely comes out early. I don't see why this would change with the new ownership so with that in mind, no one really knows where we're at with deals and negotiations for players. I'm not worried at present, I'm certain players will come in through the door over the transfer window. I'd like to get as much done as possible as early as possible and give new signings a pre season with the team but ultimately I also want the club to get the recruitment right starting this summer. Abramovich isn't just going to bail out bad signings anymore, it's imperative we hit the ball out the park with who we bring in.

It’s really hard for me to think this is all about us being unable to offload players. We have already done so! Two staring CB’s have gone. Alonso and Azpi are two extremely simple deals to wrap up as both want to go to Barca. And what’s annoying is that we’ve known all of the above for months. Since literally January we’ve known that all four of those players were seeking new challenges and wanted to go. So what have our club been doing in the months since behind the scenes? Look at Liverpool. They probably didn’t find out that Mané was going to ask out until right around the CL final. Before they even sell him, bang, they identify Nuñez as his replacement and sign him up early for huge money. Rüdiger and AC have had their heads and 1 foot out the door months ago. And yet no new CB’s have arrived yet. Blue Armour
ZAPHOD2319 4,814
Advanced talks FC. The only deals that granny has looked good in lately are the release clause deals. It is really looking like a mistake to leave this entire transfer window to granny and Tuchel. I hope they are holding some big secret, but so far it has been the Keystone cops including the Rudiger blunder. Fernando

You're writing about how quickly Man City have got deals done, but those deals, especially Häland would've been months in the making, so yes, they officially signed him early in the window but all the leg work would've been ongoing for months prior; we weren't able to do that and with someone like Koundè it is possible that the new owners wanted to do their own due diligence which is what is taking longer. People need to remember when Roman came in it took him until mid-July to get the first signing through the door as a lot of transfers aren't done in weeks. It's too easy to think that the club can still operate in the usual way in the second half of last season with its scouting and recruitment. If it were just sanctions in place and the expectation was these would be lifted by the summer window then I could understand but we've been taken over by new ownership. How are we realistically supposed to plan signings and lay any respectable ground work on deals if we don't even know who is going to own us and their ideas, outlook, budgets, etc. It's impossible to do any meaningful work with agents, etc with so much uncertainty at the club. Even when Boehly was made preferred bidder the deal wasn't a guarantee, look at Derby now. He wouldn't have been prepared to spend huge amounts of time on the recruitment side of things until he's confirmed in the door. We bought 5 or 6 new signings through the door 2 summers ago so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we can do similar this summer. Give it chance. I fully expect some deals to fall into place over the next week or two for the club. King Kante
