Simply put Chelsea are pretty much private behind the scenes and FR hasn't a fucking clue what is happening.

Romano anyway is not quick on news from English clubs other than Watford (he has some connection to Watford). He usually follows Law, Ornstein etc in reporting English clubs business. He is trying to be this Europe-wide transfer oracle but it is tough for one person to break transfer news in so many countries/leagues even though FR has the best foothold to do so at the moment.

The few journos who have a clue about what is happening within Chelsea are Matt Law, Simon Johnson, Liam Twomey, and sometime Nizaar Kinsella. I wouldn't completely trust Romano, as he only reliable in Italy.

But even then if you listen to them on podcasts that they've been on, they are all so vague at times when it comes to discussing the transfer market and will regularly stick to fairly generalised statements. They are clearly more reliable than most with their connections/insiders close to the club, but I still think very little is leaked compared to other clubs.

Either our club have become masterful at keeping things secret from even the most reliable journalists since all of them are silent regarding us or we really aren’t doing anything yet.

If Haaland is our main target and if we actually planned on trying to get him surely we would’ve started the process by now? He’s not at the Euro’s, the window has been open for a while, and preseason training is starting for clubs across Europe soon. It’s not like we’ve had to wait for some sort of deadline before we could make our move.

The fact that we’ve known for months that a striker is needed and didn’t immediately spring on one once the window started probably means that Haaland is impossible this summer.

Given Barca's position, if the top striking targets are unobtainable this summer I wouldn't be against taking Griezmann off them for a season loan. 

I think he would mesh well in our current setup, and he's always had a good work ethic and eye for goal.

Probably we really aren't doing anything yet, if not the several Dortmund sources like Ruhr Nachrichten, Funke Sport, or Kicker would already make some noise regarding us and Haaland.

Yeah. The English media are the ones that have been making all the noise, making as though a deal is in the offing (for clicks, views) when nothing has really happened. As Magic Lamps pointed out before, there's been nothing on this from the German media.

I think there are a few issues at play here. 

1) Last Summer we had a mega blow out. Now the squad is ridiculously bloated and we need to sell/loan before we buy. This is starting to happen: Tomori (£25m), Moses (£4m), Van Ginkle (free), Izzy Brown (free), Pantic (Free), Gilmour (loan.) However, we're probably going to need to do quite a bit more before we buy. 

2) Chelsea are a very, very active club on social media. Apparently, we have the most interactions of any club in world football by a good distance. Chelsea is something like 210m, whereas Barca, who are second, have 180m. 

In my opinion, there is absolutely zero chance Chelsea announce a signing like Håland during the middle of International football competitions (Euros/Copa + doubly so with England in the Semi's) and other big Summer tournaments (Wimbledon / Olympics; although not sure much can be done to avoid the Olympics.)

3) A deal like Håland is going to take all Summer. Dortmund are going to need to look like they've done everything to keep him and squeezed maximum value from any club that buys him. So, again it isn't getting done early. People will point to Sancho and Hakimi but they're slightly different situations. First is that Sancho's deal actually took a year to complete and Inter had to sell Hakimi early to cover costs. 

4) We have a few renewals we need to do fairly quickly. Rudi and AC. I can see the club wanting to get those done first as to not increase their demands when any new players start walking through the doors with bumper contracts. 

That said, why we haven't got a GK2/GK3 is a mystery. That position is one where a player is 100% needed and it isn't a type of signing that is affecting by the above. Only way this may make sense is if the club are targeting a player under contract and/or are seriously trying to shift Kepa and don't want to weaken their hand. 

Lastly, Håland has always seemed like a very unlikely deal. I have always maintained that he is something like a, at best, 20% shot. 

My only hope however is that we don't panic. If we cannot get him, then I would rather roll with Tammy and Giroud than start buying players like Ings and Belotti who all have potential future dreg written all over them.

Griezmann is on €800k a week and has tailed off in the last 12 months. Even on a wage only deal he is €41.6m a year or €20.8m on half wages. I personally would go nowhere near that deal when negotiating contracts with a couple of important players; Rudi and AC.

Starting negotiations and announcing a deal during a summer international tournament are two different things though. 

Another thing to consider is that whether the club want to blow our entire transfer budget on one player (especially when you count the agent fees, wages on top of the transfer fee) OR use the money to improve other areas in the squad this summer. We still keep seeing stories about us being linked with other players and I can't see us buying those players if we get Haaland or can't see us buying Haaland if we get those players.

No offence to those players but all but two of them were irrelevant to the first team squad. So, I highly doubt their exits make any difference at all. And loaning Gilmour out might mean we'll buy a midfielder this summer.
