Maybe Cech and Lollichon see Mendy as our best option because he solves our biggest defensive issue, which are set pieces? Especially during corners, having a tall guy that can catch balls might be a way to solve our weakness. Kepa never leaves his line, while this guy is almost Nick Pope level when it comes to aerial strenght.

Oh? Thought you weren't convinced about Mendy?

You never felt comfortable with Carlo? Can't believe I'm reading this. Was great for us

I just don't like short goalies in general. I know there was a season when Cudicini was one of the best in the league. But I just am never comfortable with short Keepers no matter what.

I am not really convinced, but this is my conclusion why I think Cech wants him. I cannot see another reason right now, but I have only seen him play once.

But I accepted that we will get him. Still a huge improvement in many ways. 75% save percentage and almost Nick Pope level when it comes to catching balls.

that video fills me with dread

he looks for shit when it come to sweeping, and he has bad hands and a tendency to push/punch the ball back into dangerous positions

plus

52% pass completion??!!!

and that is in weak-ass Lique 1

arrrrf

not feeling this at all

it is rare lately when I have had a fit over a buy, but this one might do it

I hope I am dead wrong

but my tummy is churning already :(

I will not act as if I watch Rennes play, I dont. On twitter though, people were analyzing that statistic and what the majority are saying is that Rennes do not play from the back. They hoof the ball up always. The GK takes long kicks Majority of the time. This makes sense with the 52% passing completion because aerial duals are usually 50/50. I highly doubt a professional GK who plays in a team That builds from the back will have a 52% completion rate. I mean, even if you and I were in goal that would be near impossible simply because 80% of the time youll pass to your open defenders who have no-one marking them if youre set up tactically as a team who plays possession and builds from the back.

Long as he can do the basic distribution adequately we should be fine. Stuff like spraying simple passes out when he's under no pressure.

We probably have to hold our breath if there are ever quick attackers pressing right up in his face, though.

Same, i'm just trying to not freak out over a player i've never actually seen play. Really seems like an obvious short fix, can't imagine the club seeing him as our no. 1 for the next years. Doesnt match the ambition we've shown otherwise..

We can’t spend another 100m for a gk after 5 signings and after 200++ m transfer spend .

Also Rice would cost 60m-70m€ so 25m€ for mendy +60m€ for rice =100m€

perfect for me

Also we will buy for sure Rice ( or someone else) because we loaned out Ampadu and we haven’t rotation for kante and cb.

Ampadu has nothing to do with Rice.

All 4 CBs from last season are still here plus Silva and Sarr. Also all midfielders Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Gilmour...

I don't like the PL proven narrative, that's what leads to mindfuck decisions like Torres being chosen ahead of Aguero or Rooney being targeted before Diego Costa (thankgod United saved us from ourselves on that one).

we want all out for aguero but couldn’t get him... not as if we could have had either and decided to go for torres over him

Only if we are able to offload jorginho and sell kante.

offload jorginho AND sell kante? lmao
we’re not selling kante as credible reports have claimed over and over that we want to keep him and that he wants to stay

Aguero was basically whoring himself to us, if we made anything resembling a serious play he'd have been ours.

Sarr will go for loan , Rudiger will start games only for fa cup ,league cup .

Glimour isn’t good enough, the same with Jorginho ,so the the path is clear for  Rice (or someone like him ).

Ampadu can play as cb and as Dm the same with Rice .. so ?

I remember us making serious plays and being rejected... maybe I’m misremembering tho

Very positive news on Rice from fabrizio today! that we still want him this window I mean...
If we manage rice this window, and any decent gk (even if its for competition for kepa and not necessarily first choice) this will have been an 11/10 transfer window

all thanks to this don (and marina, lamps and PC too of course):
