Yeah, that's what I thought he said too. I meant that if you're willing to take the same stance that he is, then I understand. I don't disagree with Tomo's stance. I just didn't like how passive we were today. Am fine with playing on the counter against Liverpool but we gotta show a bit more ambition than we did and better execution than lumping balls to Havertz and hoping Werner do something on the break. This game needed Giroud as the focal point to bang it long too and hold the ball up, and Werner to then drift around off of him. We may have competed valiantly but it is worth noting we lost 5 out of 6 games against the other top 4 teams last season. Not aimed at you, but loads of people have moaned throughout last season about us being tactically naive and too attack minded. Lampard has tried something different today, and I think at this stage of the season it wasn't an horrendous thing to try. It may have been from one extreme to the other with regards to how defensive we were but I do think that the defensive structure of the team has been better the last two games even if the attacking play has been poor. I think the balance will come, hopefully we take some positive results over our next couple of games and build things up. Against Brighton we showed far more resilience than we did last season and I thought were very professional in the last 20 minutes when we went back ahead. That result I think is underrated. Brighton looked excellent today away at Newcastle and won comfortably. And even today down to 10 men, it would have been easy to cave in at 2-0 down early in the second half and lose by 4 or 5 but we showed a bit more fight than wasn't always apparent last year and on a different day would and should have been approaching the last 10-15 minutes with just the odd goal between us and well in the game. Hopefully the West Brom game is a little different and we see a bit more attacking authority in our game without it becoming a game of pinball. coolhead23 1,147 Posted September 21, 2020 Share Posted September 21, 2020 Disappointing game, think this game actually came in early for us specially with us still trying to intergrate everything and they bringing Thiago at half time to provide him match practise. There was too many issues but at the same I feel there were some positives and we can envision what Lampard wants from the team. Last year it was possession based starting from back this year we're trying long balls. Defensively we're getting better if we get out Christensen lack of experience on the foul and Kepa's usual howler. In the first half, on possession we played it very safe and still tried to exploit the gaps between the players which was interesting. With Pulisic, Ziyech and Havertz getting to the number 10 ... there will more players getting in the final third to pressure the opposition. I think for all those we think we need to sell Kante, this game shows that the shift he puts in there which so few players can match ... i hope he stays fit and Lampard uses him intelligently in terms of playing him over the season. After saying all this the only regret would be that we gave them too much respect after we went one down.
