The Mourinho Thread

United under David Moyes played better than we have. Mourinho is not a long term coach, this is becoming more and more apparent. He needs to go!

It is,.but in reality, who is a long term coach these days? People are too invested in the romantic picture of Fergie and too a lesser extent Wenger to see the realities of the modern game.

Dortmund looked shot in Klopps last season and a different team since he left, Pep himself admitted he would have had to have left Barca after a few years because players would tire of his ideas.

No more than 5 years is really possible for managers at top clubs these days for a variety of reasons.

His last big job was with Valencia when he didn't last the season, had them fighting relegation and alienated and froze out key figures like Canizares and Albeda.

C'mon Tomo. Are you like always going to dismiss managers/coaches because of one bad job in their careers? Granted, some aren't/won't be good but not all are bad.

If every manager was perfect then they would coach Real/Barca/Bayern. The key is not whether a manager is perfect or not, but whether THEY KNOW HOW TO GET OUT OF AN IMPERFECT SITUATION. In this sense why we all laugh at Wenger for many years but he is a manager that consistently get his team to be that 'nearly' team in the worst of the worst situation without combusting himself like LVG, Mourinho...etc. If he had a PSG/Chelsea squad I really think he would have added a lot more league titles to his CV instead of having to rebuild the team all the time for nearly 10 years.

Basically a good reputation coach is acceptable atm, doesn't need to be a super star big name. What about that Valencia coach now that no one heard of before last season?

I'm not dismissing him merely playing devils advocate and this would be a similar job to Valencia for him, he took over there at this time off the season.

Furthermore he seems completely dedicated to Saints.

Not sure about that - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-boss-ronald-koeman-drops-6663816.

He has always flirted with the idea of taking over the Netherlands job and has been linked with Barcelona as well.

Except at Spartak Moscow, where he lasted only 6 months.

Yeah. Russia is a graveyard. I won't discount his achievements as a manager because of one bad spell in Russia of all places.

Rudi Garcia and Pochettino are also interesting names. There are many others I can name, but the board needs to do its job.

Would anyone take Ronald Koeman if we got rid of Mourinho? Curious.

I would, but it seems the club is not willing to risk. Just see the Abramovichs record: Mourinho, hired after winning the UCL with Porto, Scolari, hired after winning WC with Brazil and after a good run with Portugal, Ancelotti, hired because of his "UCL manager" status, then the lazy solution: Jose Mourinho again.

The club tried Grant, AVB and RDB, all bad experiments, so I'm not sure if the club is willing to give a guy like Koeman a chance, but for me there is a big difference between Koeman and the other 3.

Grant was never a coach. AVB had a decent record with Porto, but portuguese league is not PL, and there is a differencet between Mourinho and AVB: in 2004 Mourinho just won UCL with Porto, while in 2011 AVB won Europa League. RDM should never been named permanent coach. Koeman already understand PL and Southampton is playing decent football.
