Claims made that Chelsea will not be allowed to play in Europe next season

https://Chelsea.news/2024/09/claims-made-that-Chelsea-will-not-be-allowed-to-play-in-europe-next-season/

Some pretty big claims have been made this week suggesting that UEFA will not allow Chelsea to play in Europe next season in what would be a disaster for the club.

There is a lot going on right now in terms of Financial Fair Play Rules and Profit and Sustainability Rules, and clubs are doing all they can to try and stay in line with all of these rules.

Chelsea have sold Hotels between themselves in order to make profits on the books to stay in line with PSR, but apparently these rules only wash with the Premier League, and UEFA will take a different stance on it and not let the Hotels count as part of the profit margins for the club, meaning they will fail FFP.

That is at least according to Everton’s former chief executive Keith Wyness, who let’s face it, seems to be talking about Chelsea every single week and has a real issue with them!

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested such a ban would have devastating consequences financially for the Blues.

UEFA has reportedly confirmed clubs will not be permitted to register earnings from selling assets to sister companies.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It was almost a year before we heard that this hotel deal has been approved.

“We still haven’t had the full details about whether the valuation of those hotels has been accepted as fair market value.

“But for Europe next season – Chelsea won’t be able to qualify.

“Uefa will not allow these hotel deals to count, and I believe they will breach the rules.”

Wow if true! And not only financial.

Imagine these players watching CL on their telly once again, but now without even the possibility of qualifying.

Didn't UEFA also stop the Todibo transfer to United as Ratcliffe had a controlling in both clubs and they were both in European competitions this season.

Actually sounds like a good thing as the club will be punished for wasting ridiculous money on players that weren't worth it (Mudryk, Fofana, Cucurella, Enzo, Caicedo).

Bc it is. The new ownership has been a complete mess from start to finish. We will not win a PL/CL with them
It has been evident after hiring clueless potter and their 2nd transfer window latest.
but there is some blessing in disguise. Glory hunters will stop caring about the club and also leave this forum. The board will stop with their scattergun transfer policy so there will be some stability on the personell side. Third, only the players who truly want to be here will stay. As we have more than enough on long term contracts plus academy graduates coming through this might be enough to maintain our current mid table position for the foreseeable future

Lol, another known Chelsea hater says everything is doom and gloom and we are 100% getting banned, club due to be dissolved, there's someone saying it every week for years and years

Not only he says we are definitely in breach of the rules (which he cannot know) but also what our punishment would be if we are (which he also cannot know). Of course he assumes absolute worst in both cases

Typical sensationalist nonsense.

Who said that?
Do people intentionally ignore the conditionals when reading text? "if true"

Is it nonsensical? The club is operating very close to the FA limits, which the reported hotel sales suggest. Is it completely implausible that this will pose a problem under different more strict rules? not to me at least.

Of course it is not implausible, but Keith Wyness states it as a fact that we have breached the rules and that we are getting banned. The rules are extraordinarily complicated and to know if you are in breach and to what extent you need to work at the football club and understand how they are doing the accounting. Our situation is unbelievably complicated for loads of reasons including the forced takeover due to Government sanctions, and many other factors - it is completely impossible to know what is going to happen and anyone that says otherwise obviously has an agenda and has a lack of interest in honesty.

What do know is so far the owners have been fantastic at finding a way to stay within the rules and have clearly thought deeply with the best advisors on how to run the club from a financial and accounting perspective.

We don't know that. The investigations take some time.
Chelsea's business has been conspicuous, which does suggest they are taking a conservative approach to me at least.

Still, I don't even want to go in the merit of the matter here, but rather whether there is a reason to be worried or not; and for me there is.

'Fantastic' is an exaggeration to say the least.

If they were fantastic, they would have secured a consistent shirt sponsor by now.

I don't think they're fantastic.

I just hope they're adequate. Which is all that most football fans care about.

And while some may argue that the lack of shirt sponsor is because the club couldnt find a short term partner to work with (when out of Europe), my refrain would be the same as before. Who took a top 4 team out of Europe? It wasn't the government.
