John Stones

I don't think CB is a high enough priority to make our need for Stones such as to justify the kind of fee Everton will want. Next summer it will be without a doubt but, if need be, I think we can navigate through this season with what we have. That's all the more true now that the Baba move has happened. If left to me, I'd still be working on two more deals, a CM and another AM. In that order. If those can be afforded along with a mega CB signing, then fine but if not then, for me, CB can wait.

There isn't a hope in hells chance of us seriously competing with the support Matic and Cescy has.

Spend all that money on a defender and still end up getting dominated in midfield (where games are usually won and lost), especially in big games. priority chelsea, priority.

Do you think we can dominate the midfield with Pogba-Matic?

We can buy Stones and a top quality CM as well. The only issue is, the board are stubbornly sticking with the 'One Out, One In' policy and liking profit all of a sudden!

I know it's not the way to think in relative terms, but does it honestly matter how much we're paying now? We're owned by a billionaire at the end of the day who's more than happy to pay the sums without asking for much in return. End of the day they're long-term investments and every club is guilty of paying over the odds for young players who are showing promise. Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, James Milner, Wayne Rooney.. These guys all went for big money (again, lets be relative here. Milner and Young went for their equivalent of £40m in their time) and they're proving worthwhile acquisitions. Young and Rooney are still at United as important figures, Shaw is finally coming good & Milner became very important to City.

My point is, in about 5-6 years when he's put in solid performances no-one is going to care that we paid £40m.

The Times (probably slightly more reliable than The Sun) are saying we'll submit a fourth bid for Stones - http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/article4533230.ece

Now we'll bid the original amount they supposedly wanted (£35m) and they'll reject that too.

We may actually bid for a player 4-5 times in a single window!

Pogba is not tactically astute, tactically disciplined and mobile enough imo. Since we let Vidal slip away. someone like Koke, or the underrated and forgotten moutinho would be ideal.

If only Stones has a bit of Sterling in him...

Or even just a bit of Shaw. Didn't kick up a fuss at. Just a mutual understanding and acceptance between player and club that he should be allowed to take the next step up in his career.

If he himself asked them to let him leave I think they'd reluctantly sell at the right price.

That depends if Stones even wants to leave Everton in the first place.

Wish the Sun werent behind a paywall anymore, probably wont find out what the rest of that article says

Have you got Sky Sports? You can get the Sun Goals app for free if you do and I think that includes the football news articles.

Exactly ! We need a workhorse, like a Koke or Veratti, not Pogba.
