Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic amidst speculation he could be lining up a swoop for the 25-year-old in January.

Now the Chelsea boss has added further fuel to the fire by praising his ability, while also hinting he has been keeping an eye on his progress at the Estadio da Luz.

He told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo: "Matic is a good player. Currently his looks solid and mature. He is wise and stable. He is a player that looks very mature on the pitch… [but Benfica] is a big club and he seems comfortable.

"Benfica have agreed to sell Matic, with Chelsea in pole position for his signature [O Jogo]"

Can O Jogo be trusted more than say, Daily Mail?

I know a lot of people think it would be embarassing to sign an old player back för 10 times the amount he was valued at back then, but I really dont think pride should come before success, this player could be the difference between a third and a first place in the league.

Something that I havent seen anyone mention earlier is that he was chosen as player of the month three times last season in his league, something that only Jackson Martinez managed aswell.

I don't think it's embarassing. He was young and clearly not good enough when we trade him. Leaving us was better for him. In Benfica he worked hard and progressed a lot so we need him.

Yeah, barca does it all the time with fabregas, etc.

Now it all comes to down to the fact, is the source reliable? I am hoping for Matic more than Guarin. Not because I don't like Guarin or anything, I just prefer us having versatile options in the future. Ginkel, Matic, Rami and Baker are all pretty nice choices to rotate. Along with Mikel and Lamps.

We of all clubs should really not care what other people think.

Our owner has sacked managers like it was nothing and we've bought players for insane amounts(Torres) There is no reason why we should feel 'embarrassed" just because a young talent couldn't break into a star studded team.

If anything we should learn from this mistake and put in a buy-back clause for some of the young talents we have.
