Schurrle's hat-trick against Fulham means he is now our 2nd joint-top league scorer (with Oscar & Eto'o) this season with 6 goals.

[Will be quite amazing if we manage to win the title with this average strikeforce that we have]

As @MrExcalibur100 pointed out in the Torres thread, here's another instance of Schurrle's clever movement (watch how he tries to drag out defenders with his run off the ball) that takes away a few players and creates more space for Hazard who produces a brilliant rabona cross which Torres unfortunately didn't finish. It's a shame because it would've been a very well worked goal all round.

Similar run from Torres dragging defenders with him. Left a ton of space for Oscar. On second thought, Hazard should've passed to Oscar who was in a significantly better position than Torres to get a shot in.

A decent striker would have tested the goalkeeper from that range....but Torres, as usual couldn't even get the header on target.

Not if he made a perfect cross to Torres like he did.

The quality of the pass brought Torres in a perfect scoring position and a player like him should atleast hit on target imo

I think it wad in target. Infact I think it was a block by richardson which stopped a sure shot goal.

It wasn, but Torres should still have scored. Richardson knew nothing about that block, it just hit him in the back. Had Torres headed it to the roof of the net or into the ground, that would have been one of the goals of the season.

I was not defending torres. Jusst the opposite. The fact that he had the decency to connect his mighty head to the ball coupled with the fact that he got it on target ia more than enough for me. :)

Haha, Well, I wasn't attacking him. More nitpicking than anything, really. I just really wanted that ball to end up in the back of the net after everything Hazard did!

He did everything he could. It was on target but took a unlucky deflection off Kieran Richardson's head.

Mourinho on Schurrle...

http://www.westlondonsport.com/chelsea/hero-schurrle-still-learning-says-boss?

“These finishes were something I expect from him.

“I expect from him cold blood [in front of goal]. When he is there, the goal doesn’t become very small for him. He is cool and he is a finisher.

“He sees the keeper and he can chip him, or he can turn the keeper, or score with his right foot, or his left foot, and I expect this from him.

“But he is in a learning process in relation to the Premier League. He needs to understand what the Premier League is and to experiment, and it is difficult for him to play 90 minutes for us because he is doing things he never did before in his life.”

He was ice cool when he took those three shots. Naturaly, I think he is our best finisher atm, too bad he doesnt score more from distance, he scored some peaches for German NT and Bayer last season. He is still 23 and I feel he is kind of player that will get better with age.

How long has Oscar been stuck on 6? He was our top scorer at one point lol.

Oscar hasn't scored since we beat Southampton 3-0 on 1st January and IIRC, Hazard has already scored more league goals than him by then.

Excuse me while I have a fangirl moment here

  :getin: :getin: :woo: :woo: :delight: :delight:

Okay now I'm back

I was so upset at the store the other day when I bought my away shirt and couldn't have his name because they were missing some letters - but as a Brazilian I surely worked around it :P

I love this guy since the first interview when he showed so much love and respect for Chelsea. Those players always win my love instantly regardless of how technical or classy they are because I don't know, it touches me somehow, even if people that aren't as naive as I am say it's all words to get the supporters'. He seemed honest imo and I've been a fan ever since.

André's role in this team has always been clear for me since the beginning. He isn't technical, talented or classy as some of our players, but he has pace, a good finishing and he moves really well. I remember his first goal for us from that Torres cross, how well he's moved around. He's amazing on that.

Not every player needs to be as technical and talented as Hazard. No team in the world affords 11 highly technical players. Schürrle has it all imo to be part of our squad for a long time. He offers things none, not even Salah as far as I can say, of our AMs offer. This variation is so important for Mourinho tactically because he can surprise an opponent with offering something completely different.

Few of our players suit the counter-attack better than he does as well. That's why I'm not totally writing off the possibility of him starting some matches as the striker. Neither Torres or Eto'o has the pace he has, he won't dribble as well as Eto'o, but he takes on players without dribbling, simply by passing by them through the spaces. He's one of our best players exploring spaces. The way he gets behind defenses (and rarely getting himself offside), the way he finds space that is there (unlike Hazard who creates space with his amazing dribbles), makes him one very useful footballer and with his finish being quite good, we could use him as a striker in a few matches depending on what Mourinho wants. That's why it HURTS me whenever Mourinho gets Ramires and not Schürrle at the RW when we need pace. Yeah, nobody runs more than Rami-the-Energyzer-Bunny-res, but Shirley is quite fast himself and he's so much better making decisions than Rami is.

But Mourinho said he's learning a few things and there were those rumors saying Mourinho wanted him to improve his body, probably get him stronger. I think if he can get stronger and endure the physicality longer, he'll be a key player next season for some matches. Our secret weapon because playing with Oscar Willian Hazard brings something completely different than replacing any of the first two with Schürrle. I suppose next year we won't need him to be deployed as a striker because we'll have a good one here (I'll be sending my prayers for as much), but in this one he could make a few cameos there. I know that's not his position, but seeing him play for Germany () last year, his finishing was even more superb and clinical. I saw people in the match's thread mentioning the Utd match, but two things should be said: that was our third match in the league, and Mourinho's approach was completely defensively then. Schurrle was there just to make sure we had at least in paper someone in the attack.

Same. Really liked him when he came, thought he could turn into our Reus or Hulk for a less cost, and still do. Really think he could be our secret weapon in the run in.

Doesn't seem to bitch and moan when he doesn't play either, sits and waits for his turn, and my god did he take it yesterday. Really stepped up to the plate when we needed him and didn't go hiding after a very poor first half. It would have been easy for Schurrle to hide and allow Hazard and co to get the goal but no, he stepped up, gambled on runs and got a fine hat trick.
