Fernando Torres

If having Benitez in charge - a man that can style our play to our centre forward's strengths - can at least improve Torres' proficiency up front before the end of the season, he'll have done a good job in that respect at least.

His strengths at Liverpool were his pace and acceleration, which he has lost.

To all of you saying Torres isn't to blame consider this.

RDM knew he was leaving before the game. That much is certain. Benitez was contacted days ago, if not weeks, and knew the job was available.

So, with RDM knowing he was leaving what was his final act? To drop this idiot and start the game with...NO STRIKERS! That was a massive statement. He said fuck you Roman and your piece of shit striker you're in love with. If anything dropping Torres accelerated the process.

What a legend. Love you Di Matteo.

Plausible interpretation but I'm too inclined to apply the principle of Occam's razor (as I was in the huge AVB v Terry/Cole debacle in the Napoli game and never quite bought at least half of the manager v player stories). 1 It's very reasonable to give some rest to your most played outfield player, 2 Managers know better than players if they need to rest them.

Paco Miguel is the new fitness coach, who worked with Torres at Atletico when he was ten years old and at Liverpool. Xavi Valero is the new data analyst who Torres described himself as "outstanding" and owed much of his great form at the time to the work the pair did with each other. This is becoming more and more like Fernando Torres FC by the day.

And God knows that's a horrible FC.

That's a good thought actually, never saw it that way. Sturridge was probably going to start against Juve but got injured, second natural choice would have been Torres, but no. RDM chose to take a massive gamble in a crucial game which has never been done here before (the first time ever playing with false 9?). It looked like a gamble by a man who knew he had nothing to lose. The more I think about it the more it looks like a statement.

Torres didn't get picked by Spain so had a week off and only played about 60 minutes against West Brom. He wasn't rested, he was dropped. You don't rest your only available striker in your (up until that point) biggest game of the season.

Di Matteo knew what he was doing. Kudos to him for going out on his own terms and not playing Roman's bitch.

Well, it appears that the club has tried almost everything in order to support and help Nando (not that they have much of a choice, still more than a month until the transfer window opens). I think the people here should follow that example or at least stop the insults.

Well, since we got all those new people around Torres in order to get his speed, acceleration, instict, motivation and scoring boots back, the next logical step is to get Xavi Alonso or Xavi Alonso type of midfielder. I mean, everybody knows he needs that kind of playmaker in the team, final step to get the old Torres back. (Besides, our attacking trio could use one, just to get more space without having to drop deep in order to get the ball .)

I agree, we have insisted with Torres way too much this season. I still don't understand why we didn't get new striker back in the summer. I'm confused just like everybody else. Nevermind, experiment failed and we are about to pay the price. Think we are going to watch replay next spring? No, No, No, No and No.

For God sake, nobody is so hopeful and naive to lose even more than this. This will end in January. We are getting new striker regardless of Benitez appointment. And that striker will play. I can't be sure if Torres is leaving, but he will be benched. (How do you know that Benitez' task isn't to 'revive' Torres before we get new striker, in order to get us some decent deal for him? Or interested party?)

People who run this club have made many mistakes as well as success, but they are not idiots who will continue to lose games and money with this tragedy.
