Oscar

Mata has performed well against Barca at Valencia. When playing under a system that is attacking and possession based. People fault his errors against Bayern, Juventus, etc. But one must remember we were playing in a system that contradicted his strengths, not because he is a supposed big game bottler. Just ask United about that

I just don't get this talent cannibalism we see here sometimes

Exactly ..... It's always comparative, bipolar, two camp ingroup/outgroup stuff .... as if we don't support a team wherein they both play and preferably flourish. :fainthv9:

Oscar scoring right and left is great business for us!!!!! Our strikers aren't enjoying the art of finishing into the net much these days, so keep it up when you come back, kiddo.

I agree with everyone else that the comparison between Mata and Oscar is unhealthy here these days. It was relevant when they were competing for positions because our best player in recent years was warming the bench while a promising, but not exactly world-class player was filling his shoes. That's not the case anymore, Mata is getting better (sharper) and he's contributing to the team, although he's yet to find his best form. Having Oscar performing better than he did last year is actually good for us, but there shouldn't be two Chelsea FC sides here, one pro-Oscar, another pro-Mata because at the end of the day we need both of them playing their best to improve our titles chances.

Oscar is better today (imo he is slightly better for us since Mata was back in the team), Mata was better for the majority of last season... I'd rather have both playing the form of their lives if it was up to me. ivanovic is better than Cole right well, as well as Ramires is better than Lamps imo or Torres better than Ba and Eto'o. So what? It's irrelevant at the end of the day who's in better form, as long as all of them perform well and we keep winning.

I wouldn't say Oscar is world class either, potential to be without doubt.

I just think the words 'World Class' are to easily thrown around, very few players fall into that bracket.

where is the cut off point for "world class"?

where is the cut off point for "world class"?

Good question.

I say like a team of 18 a year.... In recent years, the only players that should be in the world class status consistently are Messi, Cristiano, Iniesta, Lahm, Ribery, Falcao, Zlatan (maybe Cavani, RVP, Aguero, Muller) Kompany, Chilleni, Thiago Silva, Vidal (maybe Bastian), Ozil and Neuer....

The only one young player I would consider "world class" was and is Alaba ( I guess at a time Gotze could be considered). Everyone else has ways to go to surpass the players ahead of them...

You forgot the opponent was Zambia. I love Oscar - but if this was KDB, everyone was going 'BelgianFanboys!!'

There is no room for nuance ...

The overreactions towards our Belgian players (especially KDB and Lukaku) are, way, waaaaayyyy higher than that of Oscar!

Sorry mate, but you cant denny that...

I don't know really .... That depends on the frame of reference, really.

I know i tend to go to a belgian bias, but the love for Oscar was really big here last season even though he had to adjust still. Now, even though he is awesome here, he gets a deflected goal against Zambia and the words world class fall, also the Mata derogation. Comon, mate, this is a bit too strong.

The doubt on Lukaku was much stronger btw .... KDB, every time he gets mentioned ... Ugh. War time against his fans.

That said, I love the player. But, we lose pespective in this kind of debate. The perspective where all these guys are blue. That saddens me for a while now .....

there is no cut off point, but answer me this, is he up there with messi and Ronaldo?

were Messi or Ronaldo up tehre with Oscar when they were 22?

Don't know about Ronaldo, but I can tell Messi was far from the end product esp when playing for Argentina.

No, it is not over the top because it was only a single member who posted that, it is not like there is a legion of fans posting Oscar is world class and better than Mata!

It escalated quickly to what was a single post from a single member. Nothing more than that. The rest was us making fun of Liverpool fans and the media for the Coutinho wanking that happened in end of last season and early August.

Also, it was way more for the way he changed and lighted up the game than for the goal he made. People just reacted positively to what has been our best player so far...

However, when Lukaku scores for Belgium, there are pages and pages of 'suck you haters' and 'Mourinho out'. Which is simply pathetic, because he is better off loaned than to not play here!

You cant criticize a Belgian without having to deal with 3-4 members defending them at all costs. It is not even comparable with Oscar, or any other players for that matter.

Gonna have to disagree about Messi. He was, until recently, pretty much a non-factor for the national team. This is not really disputable, since you gonna find very few assists and goals by him when playing for Argentina early on. Ppl were questioning his starting spot at some point... yup! Only recently, already as a matured play, he's been able to reproduce his brilliance at the international level.

Ronaldo prob was already as influential at 22, but a completely different player too. A player who also relies on his physical power and pace, as opposed to Oscar who's pure technique.

BTW, these friendlies have no importance really. They are less boring because we are so close to the WC and players are more motivated, but still, far from the real thing.
