Hutcho 8,443
And it's wired cuz that's exactly what I envisioned of him when he first arrived (playing in CM) It was a shame for him really but he didn't pout about it, and just got on with it and still contributed greatly,, props to him.But next season playing in the pivot is a must.Yep, definitely if we don't buy anyone to go in there. Modric coming in, would be a bit of an awkward situation, in that sense as we couldn't play them together, but if we were to buy someone like de rossi, or lars bender then, Oscar could really thrive alongside them. And that problem you mentioned goes to show how difficult this team is configure out personel wise. Some people are strict CAMs, others are CAMs being played out wide, B2B mids being played in pivots when really a 433 would suit them best. It is a major headache putting forward not only the best XI but getting the right back-ups (in the transfer market) for certain positions and then also meshing in the upcoming talents such as the Lukaku's, KDB's, Ake's, Romeu(?), Josh, etc. our team really is hella hard to put together, its like an ultimate jig-saw puzzle. I really like him but not so sure what was the main reason begind his signing. Was he signed to play as cm and it turned he is not really a cm. Or he was signed to back up mata or our board really envision mazacar Amblève.
nono 791
No, the problem is that we play Lampard, Mikel and Ramires together. You can only have one out of those three at a time in the midfield because they struggle to pass and to link the defense with the attack. It is really that simple. Mikel has been kept for only god knows why. Lampard has been earning the seniority and loyalty paycheck but still shouldn't be starting, let alone getting so many minutes. Ramires I like the most out of the three. All this is doing is taking a better player in Oscar out of his preferred position. It will be interesting to see what Mourinho does. Will he put an end to this mediocrity that we've had to suffer in midfield these last few years ? Reddish-Blue

I'd like to play Mata right behind Hazard, new striker and Schurrle. Behind Mata I'd have Oscar + someone like Modric (preferred) or De Rossi(great as well). Oscar is very good defensively imo and you don't need a specialist DM just have everyone press like Dortmund does.
Bir_CFC 3,455
Mata is best as a number 10 but I don't see why he can't play on the wings as an inside forward. He played on the wings for Valencia his whole career. He'll expose that flank defensively but that's when the 3 man midfield helps out where you play Ramires whichever side Mata is on so he can cover for him.CechAzpi - Ivan - Luiz - ColeDMRamires - OscarMata - Lukaku - Hazard GhanaBoy

GermanBlue 82
Kick me, but to me, Oscar has not shown why he should be regular starter. He's had great moments and he definitely has the potential to become world class, but his performances - especialy in the league - were not more than average. He mainly benefited from Moses drop of form after the African Cup, Hazard's 3 match ban and Marin being a complete flop (and having injury problems as well). To be fair, it's his first season in England (mostly not playing in his favored position) and it was hard to shine alongside your two magicians in the attacking three.Hatestorm approaching... The Skipper 20,609
Because he's playing in a position that limits what he does best. Oscar needs to play centrally. Styles

He did well playing in a central position.Unfortunately for Oscar, his favourite position is taken up by our best player...and thus, he was told to play in the wide areas..which limited his effectiveness. Severinb 309
http://plainsofalmeria.co.uk/2013/05/30/oscar-the-conductor/An article about Oscar possibly playing the deep lying playmaker role for us in the future. This is why you are the master and a man one has to respect! Great article and I have said from day one that I see him playing in the pivot.. With a strong DM(witsel/de rossi/...) he can control the game in our own have and still give us a lot when attacking and mata can be our playmaker up front.. I cant get any better if he can get used to the deep lying playmaker and I also think he HAS to play that position because our best player is mata and he is our CAM and oscar is too good to be a sub! Don't worry I actually agree. I said a while back he needs to step up his game next season because despite a good debut season I still think his playing time can be limited if we buy another midfielder.Because he's playing in a position that limits what he does best. Oscar needs to play centrally. The thing is our formation doesn't suit Oscar at all. He won't play ahead of Mata unless we rotate, and is not quite accomplished in the two holding roles. Unless we convert him to a winger or develop his play as a holding midfielder then I don't really see Oscar suiting Chelsea. I'd rather stick Luiz in holding midfield over Oscar. If we change to a 433 then that's a different matter.

He can be the player next to the holding midfielder - the deep lying playmaker, the link between attack and defence. It's where his future lies in my opinion, especially if we're sticking to this formation. His attributes suit that role very well in my opinion. yuvala
