Oscar

If Pep came here with this current squad of players I believe he wouldn't do too well trying that sort of tactic. Even when Barca resigned Fabergas you could tell he wouldn't fit the teams current set up, was a bit like what Gylfi Sigurdsson should of been like at Swansea but somehow he managed to play in their front 3 rather than their midfield 3 for some games. Yeah probably didn't need to write all of that but I did anyway....... :P

Our defense right now is laughable sometimes and if we use a 3-4-3 or whatever it would be even more laughable as Barcelona were fucking shit at defending using it so I'm imagining we'd be terrible as our defensive is in tatters with a 4 man back four....

Anyway it would be interesting to see where everyone would play in a 3-4-3 or even a 4-3-3 now due to the options we have. Oscar is a bit versatile and could easily be passed as a central midfield and an attacking midfielder.

We have quite a few versatile options, its one of the things i love about the players we have been getting in. Its even been suggested that Marin could do a job as a pivot holding midfielder and De Bruyne seems to be able to player anywhere other than defence, he was used as a false nine by bremen the other day. I would lie to see Oscar beef up a bit and maybe play in a similar manner to Xabi Alonso, he's got the vision to do it. Maybe a 3-4-3 would suit our defence we could have ivan right, cahill centre and luis left ( as this would probably happen in a couple of years when Terry is likely to have retired), We've got a lot of options right now and for the future.

Yeah we've just got to see what Robbie has a plan B if we're fucked in certain games. He didn't show much of a plan B against Athletico Madrid. The 3-4-3 would suit our defense if we played Cahill - Branna - Luiz (since Branna is the slowest we'll put him in the middle), it just doesn't make sense where Moses, Oscar, Hazard, Mata, Ramires etc would all slot in. Also the full backs lol...

I would like to see Oscar play slightly deeper kind of like Xavi Alonso but I don't see it happening too soon, unless we do what United did to Anderson and what we did to Mikel, try to change him far too soon, hope not though as it would totally kill any potential like it did to Anderson and Mikel...

A 4-2-1-3 could work for us. Oscar plays this way for Brazil. We could have Mata left and Hazard right, with them interchanging with Oscar and switching wings when they wish. I reckon this would create good fluidity, I'm not sure how it would work in defence, but if we have two decent CMs that will sit back like Sandro does for Brazil it should work.

This is exactly what Fergie is trying to replicate at United this season. Do you remember the 07/08 season when United had Rooney, Tevez, and Ronaldo? These three were formidable in the 4-2-1-3 as they were able to naturally interchange with eachother and be at ease anywhere along the front line. With Scholes in behind them they had someone to pull the strings and deliver killer passes. United wanted Eden Hazard for this very reason, with himself, Rooney, and Robin van Persie they could recreate this, with Kagawa playing infront of the two protecting the back four. There was a reason they pushed for Sneijder so much, but now they have Kagawa instead.

This would be very interesting to see with our team, and could be key in seeing Oscar thrive. On paper it would look promising, but obviously we are talking a bit down the line here.

How hard is it for RDM to play players on their position? When Oscar comes in he should play as the 10 and Mata move wide since he is more used to it.Oscar is all about passing and passing while being stuck on the wing is just useless.

I still think he should start over Ramires,or at least give him a chance to start. He always gets in when the team is playing like crap and nervous trying to turn the result

How hypocritical, blame RDM for not playing players in their position and give a solution by moving Mata out of position....

Cant you read?I said that if someone should move wide it is Mata because he played like that for Valencia and also played at the LW at Chelsea back when he was bought,so he is more used to it.

So you're telling me that moving Mata to LW wouldn't be playing him out of position cause he played there before?? He's extremely less effective if not ineffective on the wings, he doesn't have the pace to beat people there.

Anyways back on topic, Oscar is being moved to CM whether we like it or not, it shouldn't be to much of an adjustment for him to make.

Did you know that he's married already?

Edit: apparently the girl in the dress is his sister and the one with her arms around him is his wife Ludy Emboaba

I'm guessing that coming from Brazil he is a devout Catholic. Might explain why he has got married so earlier. Still kind of confused whose his wife and whose his sister. Surely the one in the white dress is his wife? But it looks like a different person with their arms around him in the other picture.

Yeah one's his sister one's his wife I suppose. There's another one on his instagram where they are out at dinner with David Luiz. He must be a ridiculous housemate :drunk:

I imagine them playing headers and volleys in the kitchen - with the sink as the goal.

Mata is a left winger predominantly. He played there all throughout his career with Real Madrid and valencia. Even in one of the Chelsea interviews he introduces himself as Juan Mata Left Winger.

Oscar in CM is fine as he is a playmaker and pick out passes.

But Mata has been so much more effective as a CM, personally I don't look at a players position as the one they describe themselves as, I base it on where they are the most effective, so personally i would say Mata is a CM, but everyone has their own thoughts. :blue scalf:

Double Pivot role for me is a bad idea in this moment in time.

Against Reading he got pushed off the ball twice, you could tell how frustrated he was, he's going to have a tough time. He's got the quality but it's going to take a lot of mentality to pull through for him, i believe he can do it though.

That's why i think it's best for him to play as CAM, so he has less reliability and more creative freedom.

The first part of your post is true, but the second part isn't.

Yes, last year he was more effective when he was playing in the middle of the park. But does it make him a CM ? Not necessarily. We have to see the bigger picture and ask ourselves "why did he was more effective in a CM role than at a winger role ?"

First of all, we have to keep in mind one fact : last year, he was the only player, at our disposal, who was able to create thing, to build the game. This fact could be very deceiving on our perception of him, deceiving on his stats. Indeed, in term of creativity/technical, he was the big fish in the small pond ; it could have make him look better than he was. I mean, if had a good amount of assists, this is also due to the fact that he had to do more than his normal job, since he was the only one able to make assists on a regular basis.

So, despite not being his role, he was the player we were relying on the make things happen, to build the game. Thus no wonder he was more effective when playing through the middle : he was having more impact on the game ; while on the wing he was being isolated and couldn't weight on the game building.

So, was he more effectif in a CM role than on the wing ? Yes. Does it make him a CM ? No, it was only a part-time job. And now we have more players in term of creativity, technic (Marin, Hazard, Oscar), we will that he isn't a great CM, that there are better players for this job, and that his real position is on the wing.
