opinion corroborated by the interest shown in him.

So David Luiz is valued by a club at £30 million, ergo your opinion is corroborated?

Tremendous logic there except we valued Fernando Torres at £50 million. You see the point I'm making right - sometimes the market is very wrong.

To Barcelona, he may well be a £30 million defender.

To Chelsea, he's not even considered a defender (oh, for corroboration look at the number of times he's played for us in defence since November 2nd).

That's being disingenuous, as you know very well that Torres valuation is not 50m.

The value of an asset, any asset, is what others may be willing to pay for it - not more not less. BTW, where did I write 30m?! You came up with it.

What he is considered at chelsea right now is of no importance because it pertains the current system, with a particular manager. With a different one, not long ago, he was indeed a defender. Same way he is right now a defender for Scolari (who has always a system very similar to Mourinho's). BTW, midfielders are more valuable...

I honestly feel that David Luiz must be a part of Chelsea's DNA in the future, while on the other hand, another brazilian, Ramires, while he has done so much for us, should be the one we let go.

Neither of them are our first choice pivots, and that being so, i would rather have luiz rather than ramires if i had to choose between them.

The point is that at the time, Torres was valued by the market as being worth £50 million. That proved wrong much like Shvchenko's valuation and Sutton's valuation.

We can talk about systems, we can talk about valuations made by other clubs, we can talk about performances for Brazil....all so we can avoid talking about his performances for Chelsea in defence.

he's a big game player and he's proved it over and over this season... in most games against big teams this year we've put him in midfield and he's been nothing short of amazing in almost all of them (city, pool, arse etc). being MOTM v. paris when we're 3-1 down from the first leg in a CL quarterfinal just further shows what he's made of... he's a winner and that's what jose and chelsea need

Right, we paid 50m for Torres and now we cannot let him go, even if for free, because we'd still need to pay some of his wages. We paid 21m+Matic (1-3m?) for Luiz, and got a 21m offer last summer and there are rumors (nothing more) of a 30m valuation - really nothing to do with Torres.

why in defense? Why the caveat? Playing well in the middle will only raise his price as midfielders are far more expensive and rightly so, because they are far more influential in a match. I for one think that, in our current system with deep defense line, DL should definitely play in the middle.

But then again, we've been through all this before. I was just replying to an interesting point made by "Rubber Bullets."

If Asier fucking Illaramendi is worth 40m, why wouldnt Luiz be 30? We know that most players shine once they leave Chelsea (Lukaku, Sturridge,...), Im sure Luiz would turn into world class CB in psg next to Silva or in barca (now impossible).

So, if footballing world values him at 30m, he is worth 30m. He might not be that good, but thats his worth.

Should we sell him? Absolutely fucking not. We dont need to sell him, he is still very usefull for us. He is added value and what is most important; he is our hero. The fact he was benched for much of season, staying calm, doing his job when called and giving such performance on biggest game of the year, he deserves to stay here. He isnt just nice guy like Mata was, but actualy very usefull player. We aint selling club and we dont need to sell. We will earn money on Torres, Ba, Mikel, Marin, Moses, Romeu,...potentialy even Cech and Lukaku (hopefuly not)

It doesn't work that way dude, Asier had a clause and Madrid had to pay it otherwise they wouldn't sell. No one would pay 40-50m for Luiz maybe even 35m. PSG, Barca are the only 2 clubs interested and 1 got a transfer ban until 2015.

Who said we are selling Cech...etc and those players you listed would get us probably 20m-25m max.

You've just described how every other deal is done in football.

When the seller is not very keen on selling, the buyer needs to trigger the release clause - or get very close to.

the point is, if we sell DL, then who do we buy?

our options for CMs are

definite - MATIC, RAMBO

maybe - MVG

should not be - LAMPS, MIKEL.

Load of back up mid over Europe that are decent back up for around 5-10m. Look at teams like Valencia, Sevilla...etc for those players. Matic+Ramires 1st choice with VK and maybe Frank as back up, more than enough. Then there is Mikel too(but think he will be sold)

mikel will be sold.

ramires has shown that he is not very comfortable in the no.8 role.

judgement on mvg is still to be made

lamps is past it.

DL despite his liabilities is a massive big game player. its not a co-incidence that he has played against city, pool, united, arsenal, and CL matches (which are all big matches). jose definitely rates him high in mid.

Dude we don't have/won't have perfect players in every single position. The rest of the team will be more than world class, that 2nd CDM role for Ramires and VGK is alright. Luiz might do well in some big games but in general he has been very inconsistent and that means 30m+ is quite overpriced for these luxury players.
