David Luiz

Yeah terrible game by Luiz. He's been assigned to deal with the high balls in the box because Thiago is shorter than him, but we all know it is David's main weakness.

Both Thiago and David are pretty weak in the air. Though David at least has the height to improve; wonder if the broken nose is bothering him a bit (confidence with the headers).

His distribution is good as always though; really cannot compare him to Thiago with the ball at their feet. Thiago passes like a center back...

I think it's the whole Brazilian mentality he seems to have. I mean 'Brazilian' in an attacking/flair sense. It's like he feels like he has to defend with flair or some crap; he tries too hard and forgets the simple things.

He does it every season with us: plays well in the second half of the season, picks up form and then goes off on his holiday to Brazil and comes back with more samba crap at the start of next season.

Hopefully José can smack some sense into him because he has all the tools to become truly world class.

Having one of the worst games of his career today. It is 10 vs 12, basically Brazil vs Uruguay + Luiz!

it's funny though, Thiago assists for the goal and gets no criticism...

Honestly, it's easy to focus on the CBs when they get no support.

^^ It's the right mentality BTW... we/they've got the titles to support it. But, yes, we could away with the unnecessary wrestling, especially inside the box! :)

I don't think Jose himself knows what his plans are atm, he still haven't had a single training session with any of the players yet.

Don't think Mourinho or any other managers for that matter will still be clueless about their plans when pre-season is not far off. He would have already done his homework, thought about his plans and have ideas on what to do already but what's probably certain is, he will give the players (ones that he might have doubts on) chance to prove him wrong and change his plans.

Yes I meant he won't have his plans for Luiz figured out already. Watching players in games is completely different than seeing them in training. He'll have to see him train before he decides on his plans for him.

That's pretty much what I meant. He will have an idea of what to do with Luiz (and others) in regards to his plan but there is still time to change that...

(and you should have made clearer the first time if you are talking about Luiz, specifically!)

This guy is good footballer but for a 26 year old CB, he shoud be more mature. Some challenges he makes are completely unecessary and sometimes cuntish (his elbows,...). But more it gets clear is that this guy is not a leader. He isnt mature and calm enough to lead defense. Its not his errors (every cb makes errors) but his personality. Luiz is free minded defender and we will definately need a leader along him. Silva, Kompany,...are great examples. They simply dont joke around. Luiz is mistake prone. He has skill to be great, but his head goes other way. Kind of similar to Pique.

I dont want Luiz to leave or criticise but that is quite true.

He's having a bad game tbh. Worst game he's had in a while. No doubt his detractors will overlook his consistently good form over the whole season and use this game as "proof" that he's rubbish though. Hopefully he picks it up and has a stormer in the 2nd half.

I don't think his 'detractors' think he is rubbish. In fact I think everyone knows just how good David Luiz can be.

But I think his critics and his supporters will both be united in a sense of 'well, that's David'. He can be absolutely phenomenal but if he does something so mind-numbingly stupid as horsecollaring a player in the box, no-one is going to be that surprised. Someone said elsewhere that he makes tackles others don't, and I think that's true. He will close down players and win the ball when other defenders simply wouldn't have the foresight or pace to do so.

What attackers hate about him is what his supporters and teammates must also be slightly wary of - unpredictability.

Once a while every footballer has a bad game. Luiz had one last night.

Despite of it, Luiz should be part of Chelsea next season, I feel. Certainly, he makes fooling tackles, as seen last night.

I bet, Jose knows what to do with him & soon we will find out.

Why the fuck did he pull Cavani (?) to the ground to give away that penalty, what an idiot he is some of the time.

Things like that, that still make me worry about him as our main CB, you'd expect a 26 year old to not do that sort of things or do it a lot more discretely than what he did it lmao.

Tell you what, if he is given a chance under Jose, Jose will tear him a new arsehole if he carries on like that this season. He won't take under-performing and stupid mistakes, he will be dropped and possibly sold.
