Romelu Lukaku

Guys you gotta look at this objectively.

Market prices are way overblown and we were in the need of a quality striker, and that striker market is very limited atm.

Harry Kane - great young striker, clinical, technical, big and gets teammates involved, but Tottenham would never sell him to us and even if they would, it would be the price of their new stadium. 0
Personally be my first choice.

Alvaro Morata - young, tall, technical and very talented but never led the line all by himself and he's been an impact sub throughout his career. Too much of a gamble for that money.

Andra Belotti - broke out last season, pacey, clinical with both feet and great arealy but also too big of a risk for that amount of money. Torino already refused 70 million from AC Milan.

Lacazette - quick, clinical, get's teammates involved and consistent in French league, but don't think we were in for him anyway and for all his good performances for the last couple of years he isn't getting called for French NT. Arsenal got him anyway.

Aubameyang - tall, super quick, not so clinical. Has his eyes set on Madrid and Madrid only apparently.

Mbappe - 18 years of age, super quick, clinical, talented and great technique. Price would be too high, wants starter spot guaranteed and has his eyes set on Madrid. Too big of a risk for a player that's been here for a single year.

Lukaku - tall, strong, clinical but not technically sound as the rest from this list but he's very consistent, been on the stage for a while and EPL proven. He was the safest pick for the money of all mentioned and that was one of the deciding factors.

most intelligent post I've read in the past days!!

You must be smoking some good shit...

No. The reason i am sayng that is we can't get any better striker now because i don't feel confident with belotti or morata. Secondly Spur would notdream of selling and Kane is not in a hurry to leave But after 2 more seasons of winning nothing he would force for a move more like Sanchez then we will swoop in and he know that there will certainly be place for him in the squad. Yes i would be happy if Lukaku went to Man Utd only for us to get Kane in a season or two's time. For me Kane is Top Five in the world

Well real Madrid screwed up on the fax with degea :D

So it's not the end of the world if we are willing to get belloti or morata.

But after seeing the board drag their feet in everything can we trust them to pull one of those deals?

What happend with "he is chelsea fan, loves chelsea and will move only to sb if we make decent offer, will give 110% here,...only to end up in United of all clubs?

Then that was BS, maybe the whole Lukaku to Chelsea was bs and he was always on track to United since may?

Much like anyone else I dunno much, but isnt it weird he was "practicaly ours" for two months, then Utd shows up and he joins them in few days? :D if we didnt want to pay the fee in the beggining, he would never come here, and if he was personaly nailed on to join us, he wouldnt move to utd in one week haha.

I was never realy nailed on getting him, so if we get the proper striker anyway which is excpected, it will be allright. Its funny though, everybody is so pissed at board and club when no one knows what was realy going on.

I think the board naively thought that we could just wait and until Costa was sold. I actually can believe they were totally blindsided by United coming in as is being reported. They figured Lukaku was desperate to return here and only had eyes for Chelsea.

But I think about 90% of the reason this transfer happened was because of his best mate Pogba. They've probably been on holiday fantasizing about playing together nonstop. Add to that the phone call Mourinho surely made to him saying "you're coming to the biggest club in the world and you'll become a global superstar," as well as that greedy cunt of an agent Raiola pushing him towards Manchester.

They probably made him feel über important and special while our board was farting around taking their time.

I'm not one to fancy the fan argument thing but I don't think it came down to the player's choice between the two clubs. I think Romelu took the first option available and that was Manchester United. They agreed a fee so they were the first. We only matched the 75m+bonuses. In the end they still had a higher offer since it included Rooney and 10m more plus the agent fees.

Romelu Lukaku PL Stats vs Top 6 clubs for last 3 seasons:

Games: 33

Goals: 4

Transfer fee: £100 million

NO THANKS :D

It's totally different to play against top6 teams in Everton than in MU. In the past few seasons there was Barkley, Mirallas and Lennon supporting him, from now there will be Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba and Martial, so don't be surprised if he starts to shine in those games.

I wonder if we get anything from this transfer money wise. Last I heard we had no sell on clause when we sold him to Everton. He is homegrown thanks to us, we should be getting at least a little something.

After evaluating the situation logically, I think this was a blessing in disguise. Lukaku would disallow us to play good football. It would be another case of supplying the target man via long balls again and that's really not a style of football I'm interested in tbh. I want us to become a technically efficient team, rather than a hoof and hope for the big man to do his work.

I take back my Marina slander. £100m for Lukaku is insane.

I take back my take back. We've matched the bid. It's all very embarrassing. Who's to blame for this? I do think the way we negotiate has a big factor in this. If we were going to pay this much anyway why in the world were we low balling?

I hope the club does wake up now though. If Roman has any pride left he'd be fuming right now.

Can afford and don't want to pay that money are two very different things. We clearly have the money but it's like we have Wenger conducting our transfer business.

I am not sure about chelsea finance but we are talking about 100 m gbp for one player here.

So are we becoming like Arsenal? Maybe, but arsenal problem has never been about transfer, year after year they have one of the best squad in Epl. People can mock Wenger but in term of squad development he is fantastic.

One thing for certain we certainly cannot compete against united in transfer, in two years they have spent, maybe over 200 million gbp without selling anybody significant. There is no way we can compete against that.

I think last season I said I was worried about united not because of Mou but because United can spend and spend have by far the best squad in the league. Last season I rated United squad either 1st or 2nd in the league (the fact that they finished 6th was very underwhelming) yet here they are spending crazy money again.
